Currently reading 3 books... whether my brain wants to shift into gear dictates which I read at any given moment.

Holding the Dream - Nora Roberts (proper chick lit and escapism). Is the 2nd in a trilogy so I've more brain blah after this one is done.

American Gods - Neil Gaiman

I'm really late to the party with this one but I'm enjoying it. Brain needs to be in gear though

American Gods is a great read! They made it into a pretty good series too (Netflix or Prime i think)

Currently reading the Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse.

It's an interesting premise but not well executed. The characters are badly written and not at all engaging, and it's a real slog to get through it.

I keep hoping it's going to improve but I'm about three quarters of the way through it and there's no signs of it getting better!

I just finished a beautiful novel called Open Water. Thoroughly enjoyed every single page and related to much of it too.

Then I read James Baldwin’s Dark days on the train two days ago.

Planning to start The Beautiful and The Damned next.

You need to be in a very good place to read it... It's brutal, but very well written

Currently reading The Crysallids by John Wyndham. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it but I am. Need to get it finished in time for book club meeting next week. My next book is my own choice All the Young men by Ruth Coker Burks.

I've only made it to chapter five, I found it a bit of a slog if I'm honest. It was recommended by a lot of people and I got it free.

Nope. This is far too dark!! Literally a heavy heavy read. Not enjoyable. Had to put the book down.

It's brutal... It put me in a downward funk for two weeks and made me cry.. I don't cry

I've just been given a copy of Mark Manson's 'The Subtle Art of not Giving a Fuck' - a counterintuitive approach to living a good life.

I can't remember the last book I read - a military biography probably Battle Scars by Jason Fox and it was good - I'd initially read it to see how other people cope with PTSD.

So right now I'm rereading One Hundred Years of Solitude, Gabriel García Márquez. After, in celebration of the centenary, I'm going to dip into the haiku of Jack Kerouac. I love the art form anyway and it seems a fitting tribute.

After that, Sandman, in preparation for the new series.

I enjoyed this. Currently on my second listen of The Gendered Brain by Gona Ripon. I wanted to listen again after re-playing The Blank Slate by Stephen Pinker - a lot of common ground but some pretty significant differences of opinion from two experts on their field.
