My adopted mother

So lately ive been having therapy to help with my mental health, last session is next week but ill be put forward for long-term therapy afterwards.

Now one of the topics i discussed with my therapist is my family and how much ive been neglected even to this day, no form of genuine relationship with my dad or my mum (though my mother passed away in December 2020). But ive been fortunate as one of the gfs my dad was with, Urszula, for about 3 years when i was 13-16, naturally took on a more maturnal role with me when i often visited my dad, unlike all the other gfs my dad had over the years. Though considering they were all so young im not really surprised... one of them was just 4 years older than me

So after they had split, several years went by before i got back into contact with Urszula as i did somewhat miss her and she was the only gf of my dads who i had a decent amount of interaction with. Not much really went on between us for a few more years but we had reconnected at least.

It wasnt until a few years ago around 2017 before she started to become more involved with my life despite living all the way in london. But since then the connection we had began to grow, and now in more recent months she has become almost as a real mother to me, filling in the position that my late birth mother failed to fill even when i was at a young age

Im pretty thankful that things turned out the way they did, sure im pretty broken after the upbringing ive had and its caused me a lot of problems throughout life, but in the end its resulted in me having a new mother who wants to fill that role in my life. And its pretty great that despite her being a mother to me, were also really good friends which gives us a really interesting and open dynamic to our relationship. It is still hard for me to speak with her on a regular basis as my therapist and i recognised that the reason i havent spoken to her as much as i should have is a result of my birth parents not doing that with me

So Urszula (whos only 7 years older than me which i know seems pretty crazy), is now my adopted mother, one of my closest friends and a person who value most above anyone else. Unfortunately she moved to poland last year where shes originally from but im hoping in time we can see each other more regularly especially as its likely to become a second home for me

I just thought id share this with you all, see what your thoughts are etc.

If someone loves you and you love them back, it's a good thing, regardless of any blood ties. best of luck!
