I'd like to think I'd have been there, but in truth, I don't know if I'd have had the balls when I have a family to think of.

Think it's important to remember that the Russian State does not represent all Russians. Nazi Germany was called a dictatorship by consent, but you can't have real consent when there are zero means of dissent.

In this country in the last 100 yrs or so we have had a political voice and wouldn’t stand for such actions

Russia has never really had a voice in term of the populous

1917 was the start of communism. Since the they are not used to kicking back on their governments

Considering, the authorities are arresting anti-war protesters, as Putin clamps down on dissent within his own country.

But as I've said on another thread, many Russian citizens who have access to social media or access to foreign TV / Radio, are recognising the reality and speaking out.

You think he might be on Russian Fab? For someone who is antagonistic towards the LGTBQ community he certainly likes to set himself as a gay icon riding bare chested and bare back on a horse.

It's not very popular with the Russian people. Not hungry for war.

Do they have any chance of making a difference though?

There is anti war graffiti appeared in public buildings in Moscow.

I am overawed at the brave russians risking long prison sentences to protest about this.

Sadly there is a lot of ultra nationalism in Russia, especially around Putin.

"Kill the Bastard "

The pretty unique oligarchy, unfettered by practical democracy means it is a multi headed beast with Putin the psychotic head. More like Spectre but without the weaknesses.

I've been watching the news this evening and they have been interviewing Russians in Russia and all of them have looked really shocked and sad and made it clear they are devastated and don't want this to happen.

Your all a bit brainwashed

Putin is very popular in Russian

And the nato and USA pushing east makes the Russian people want to defend Russia

You forgot it’s the west Germany who invade Russia in world war 2 and all this comes form that war

You have to understand the whole picture not just bbc bullocks

Problem in that area run deep and the media story isn’t the whole picture as it never is

Is he popular though?

Even if he did have widespread support he doesn't now.

He really isnt popular popular , hes feared and hated, ive live/ travelled out there hes a modern day tame hitler, Hes hugely feared. Those protesters are brave but daft and as for all these other protesters like the huge group in Nottingham city centre do they really think they will make a difference typical protester mentality.

You can always rely on someone on Fabs for well informed debate. ??

Germany not West Germany attacked Russia. And you conveniently omit that Russia and Germany signed the Molotov-von Ribbentrop pact days before the outbreak of war which effectively was Russian approval for the German invasion of Poland. Germany didn't actually attack Russia until 1941. NATO isn't "pushing East". All the former Soviet states asked to join NATO.

Putin is popular though, amongst the poor and disaffected those that were “looked after” under the soviet system. Russia is a huge country, with mass unemployment and great social disparity. Putin plays on the nostalgia of many of those people, who look back with the bleary eyes of nostalgia.

Of course they don’t realise or care that he has robbed them all and he and his cronies are the ones responsible for their poverty.

The rhetoric of denazification is told to play directly into gaining support from the east of his country. The atrocities that were committed in the east of Russia during WW2 are still sharp in the memories of many of those regions, he is playing into their fear of a repeat to garner support.

West of Russia, I meant to say, forgive my compass error, everything is east of where I live
