In this hour of peril I decry the Russian juggernaut bearing down on the Ukraine. Other Eastern Europeans must be feeling very nervous today too.

After all we’ve been through and strove for, it’s tragic to think we can all be dragged into the abyss by a weak paranoid dictator.

An army the size of Russian could only be stopped by a massive military response. One which will see the deaths of countless people.

The Russian Front was always the scene of merciless brutality and there is no need to think that this time it will be any different.

Think how Poland and the Baltic states must feel. He wants war as he has conjured this conflict up. He has no real claim on any part of Ukraine.

There will not be any military action by the west and Putin knows that. He is relying on there being no appetite for open conflict and intervention from western populations because the memory of Iraq and Afghanistan are still fresh in the memory. For the Russian it is 30 years or more since they had their debacle in Afghanistan so it is a distant memory.

The US have already said they won't send troops and not sure of the appetite for a land war from a coalition of European nations so either Russia stops at Ukraine, sanctions and appeasement actually work or its nukes.

I think differently. I think putin does want a war. Not WWIII but to decisively take Ukrainian soil if not the entire country. I also think that if Ukraine don’t give over the two territories they recently “recognised” then he’ll take the whole country in retribution and as a way to ensure he’ll not be spending decade defending those regions from tit-for-tat skirmishes.

But I also think he’ll take a “good” settlement.

Yes, they've said that about Ukraine. Article 5 of the NATO treaty says all members must act if another member is attacked.

Odessa a Black Sea port which links to the Ukrainian railway system, which itself links to the trans-Siberian railway system. He is “locked in” for 6 months of the year which makes Russia vulnerable to sanctions.

Odessa is the primary target hence troops pouring out of the Crimea and heading west. Troops from Belarus will push to Kyiv to control the country and the troops in the east will roll across from east to west in a slow methodical manner, depending on resistance.

He will then install a puppet government in the Ukraine after “free and fair” elections and weaken the surrounding Eastern European countries due to the refugee crisis that all this creates.

I think we're getting tied up in semantics, I fully agree but the fear is being fuelled by hatred and negative propaganda..after centuries of human beings falling out with each other it seems we still have much to learn.

Not much oil in Ukraine so no US involvement. Thankfully the EU, Nato, UN, China will ensure security.... If not then the UK ban on Matryoshka dolls should cease hostilities.

The Russians have never been concerned with expending their troops, they killed many of them themselves if they retreated.

I think everyone was worried about a Russian/China tag team.

And they knew if they allowed the Ukraine to join then sanctions would not be enough. It’s the lazy way out. To be seen to be condoning Russia without having to follow through physically.

The Makinder Theory suggested a worldwide conflict over the Asian landmass. Sort of in the interests of the world to stop a unied Central Asia.

But Russia and China are hostile anyway. Don’t forget Tibet or Georgia or the Baltic States , Finland and Poland.

Omg what? I do not want my gov to be changing the rules of membership just so they can force a world war! …and for what? Just to see who has the bigger penis? Who’s willing to sacrifice the most lives of people they will never know the name of until they’re lauding their bravery on remembrance day and telling everyone who it must never happen again? …I can not agree with Russia but I also can not agree to that as a reaction.

The NATO guy has more or less said if Putin does not stop at the Ukraine then yes, NATO will be in. They have already sent more soldiers on to the borders in case. He mentioned this numerous times in his news briefing, so I take it this was a warning to Putin, should he be listening.

Currently there is very little can be done in terms of obligation. As soon as Vlad decides the cross another border in to a Nato member territory then its a done deal.

The ball is in his court, and what happens from this point and consequences are in the hands of a man acting very dictator-like.

Ukraine is not part of Nato but i dont think he will stop at Ukraine. He wants other countries back which he feels were lost to the anexation of the old soviet union. Poland, Belarous etc. Very worrying times and very dangerous words spoken by Putin too. On the brink of horrific war.
