What’s your favourite piece? For me it’s Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique which is beautiful and also devouringly sad, and Sibelius’ Violin Concerto which is a testament to music as harmonious narrative.

I would never say I know anything in depth a out classical music other than I enjoy listening. Rachmaninov , Piano Concerto No.2 gives me goose bumps. I also love

Rota , Love Theme, from Romeo and Juliet, Ravel,Bolero , Bach air in a g string (snigger) , pachabel,canon in D (who doesn't) , chopin, nocturne no 2 and the ever present vivaldi four seasons .

Rach PC2 is incredible yeah, if you like the Romeo and Juliet theme (also has some climax-y stuff) then maybe try this?

I am another that loves nimrod by Elgar, also Rachmaninov rhapsody on a theme of Paganini as a favourite

But heck any classical is good… have to say this is going to sound morbid, but I do like a good funeral March… Mendelssohn is a good one

A connoisseur! I’m personally not into the more modern cover stuff as much but I should give it more of a go. Any recommendations? Or in general? You seem to know the genre too.

Good call Pianio Concerto number 2 but what about Paganini Variations by Rachmaninov.

London Symphony by Vaughan Williams for me.

Apart from being an avid listener of classical music I am also interested in progressive rock groups notably ELP. The first piece of Classical music played by a rock band was The Nice version of Leonart Bernsteins "America, the Nice morphed into Emerson Lake and Palmer who went on to perform works by Janacek,J,S.Bach, Aaron Copland, Prokofiev in addition to the work by Mussorgsky.

I imagine a number of other prog rock groups followed suit but my interest has always been ELP.
