Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Would you give up employment rights for shares?

I won't say what I think of this... yet.

depends on which rights they are and what the share option rewards ( individual performance or overall company/unit/division performance )

Not a cat in hell's chance !

Why would any reputable company even offer that as an option ?

Not with the share price my employers are trading at.

In all seriousness, I think it would depend on how your company operates. I worked with Waitrose and I would give up employment rights for shares with them. I also worked for Sainsburys, and they were such a shit employer, I joined the Union, which is something I swore I would never do!!!

You sell your soul to the devil if you do that but if a company is hell bent on changing your T&Cs there isn't much you can do about it so you might as well get something out of it.

This was the Chancellor's suggestion last week and I have seen very little commentary on it since he floated this idea.

My immediate thoughts were:

1) who would want to with the current share prices?

2) what about those working in charities and for the public sector?

3) which family companies would want to give away their shares?

4) which rights would disappear first? Most likely the most protective.

5) he's bonkers.

Nope.

Just shows how disconnected from the real world Osborne is.

We are all in this together - don't make me laugh
