Whats your thoughts have you tried them?

Do you like them or dislike them?

Tried a few different lager's ourselves, we just don't like them or see the point really. There's so much available these days even spirit's now. I would rather have a soft drink if I couldn't drink alcohol for a reason.

I tried 1 a few months ago, it was okay. It would make a better alternative when you are driving as Coke can bag you up.

When gigging I was generally the driver while all my band mates got hammered. Some places had Becks Blue so I would have that to kinda feel like I was fitting in. It was all fine till I bought my dog dog beer and it smelled the same. I stuck to Irn Bru after that

Booze free lager is usually awful

Booze free wheat beer on the other hand… really lends itself to being booze free, and I have a fridge in my gym/shed full of 0% Erdinger and Hoegarden (and some Leffe, but that’s only average) and I grab one after each workout

Nothing wrong with alcohol free alternatives so long as it’s made nice. There’s a nice gin free one that Asda sells, it’s £20 and is quite refreshing, similarly there is another they sell for half the price and it’s rotten, it’s like the el cheapo White Lightening alcoholics drink because it’s cheap.

It’s nice to be “included” and too look like you’re drinking alcohol even if you’re not.

If I want to drink , I’ll stay at home

OP, try the low alcohol (0.5%) beers and ciders instead. They actually taste the way they should without the annoying malty aftertaste.

Tried one or two when over a friends house but I personally think they are a bit pointless as well.

I don’t feel like I’m missing out or any less ‘included’ if I’m sat there with a soft drink while others are drinking alcohol.

The thing that baffles me is the price. I saw zero alcohol Gordon's gin in the supermarket last weekend, £14 a bottle

for what is, essentially, gin flavoured water!

It starts off as Gin, and then has the boozed removed, it’s a far more complex thing to do than just making gin….

The cost of production (and indeed definitely the value in the product) is not how much actual alcohol is in the bottle…

There are some awful ones out there, just as there are some awful alcoholic drinks too.

But I've had plenty of really nice ones, and bars are starting to serve them on tap too which makes them even nicer.

You ask what the point is, but then what is the point of an alcoholic drink?

Do you only drink them to get d*unk? Personally I enjoy drinking them because I enjoy the taste, so when I'm driving it great to be able to enjoy that still.

Also, when drinking non-alcoholic drinks, the placebo effect kicks in and you relax and mess about more, but without actually getting d*unk.

I've never tasted alcohol so never needed to find an alternative but someome bought be a bottle of Kaliber years ago and swore it was just like a proper lager. It tasted like piss.

And for those saying it's not cheap. £1 for a 500ml bottle of ale is cheap. Most non-alcholoic drinks I've tried have been cheaper than the alcoholic versions.

I don't drink to get d*unk though its nice to be merry and have a laugh after a few, I do like the taste of lager can't beat a pint of San Miguel with a meal in Spoon's and alternatives I've tried so far just didn't come close.

After a long period of drink and drug abuse I am now in recovery. I’m happier and healthier than I ever have been before. I wasn’t a nice person but now I’m pleased to say I’m different.

Non alcoholic drinks have come so far. To someone who drinks I understand there is little point. But there are genuinely nice drinks. I only ever used to drink to get as d*unk as possible. Now I enjoy a beer or cider. The wine is still not great but the gin is nice.

There are definitely some nice ones out there. Oddly it never seems to be the big name ones, so avoid Heineken and things like that, as they are too focused on trying to recreate their beer as non alcoholic rather than just making a nice beer that is alcoholic and it doesn't work as you know the difference.

Since. I've been drinking non-alcoholic in clubs, I've found I'm still getting merry... but I snap out of it as soon as I need to drive.

To allow me to drive myself and friends to clubs, to feel like I'm not missing out on drinking and enjoy the taste and the slight merryness of the placebo effect, I think they are great.

I've tried a couple of the different lagers and ciders. They weren't terrible and that was a few years ago so I should imagine they've got better by now. Not so sure about the Gin, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it but I would try it if someone else was drinking it.

I think they are great if you like the taste of them. I've been with many people over the years that have d*unk them for one reason or another. It's not about drinking to get d*unk, if you like the taste of the non alcoholic drinks then why not. Some people have medication that stops them drinking but they might miss the taste now and then, or they have to drive that night or get up early the next day. One of my friends bought some to take to a party when she was pregnant because she didn't want to feel left out.

Or fall asleep on some cardboard by the bins out the back of the bars, you usually end up with some tramps cuddling in and keeping you warm, it’s great and you make new friends!

I'd give alcohol free gin a go. I don't drink all that much and soft drinks can be a bit sweet after a while. I'd also try an alcohol free wine. I'd be paranoid of the bar accidentally giving the wrong one though if I was driving.

The trouble with most traditional soft drinks is they're too sweet. (I know many alcoholic drinks are also full of sugar, but they don't taste sweet.)

Alcohol-free lager is a nice drink when going for a curry, but having to drive home.

The point is it’s a drink without any alcohol , like squash or but different. Why can’t people understand it ?

If you only drink for the alcohol, not the taste why not just drink soft drinks and add some pure alcohol ?

My grandson calls them "Nothing Beer". Can't understand why I have them instead of /pepsi when we eat out. I don't happen to like fizzy drinks, apart from water. I like the Peroni 0% when we visit our local Italian for a meal, the nicest LA Beer I've tasted.

I did a thing called one year no beer OYNB, tried multiple 0% alternatives... equal best San Miguel/Heineken... Worst Becks blue.

I think they tasted pretty close to the real thing but that wasn't the point... I woke without the fear

Koppaberg alcohol free is nice, I dont drink alcohol to begin with so cant compare it to that. To me its not something I would actively seek out, but then neither are soft drinks, im more water or juices.

I don't drink lager or lager. So I can't vouch for them.

I do get fed up with sticking to sweet drinks and miss the taste of ale.

You can only drink so much tonic water.

I need to keep my driving licence and have my ale and drink it.

This generation of blue labeled booze is getting better, Old Speckled Hen does taste a tad watery, but I have had local ales from Long Melford, Suffolk and that really worked.

Blue labels, save lives. Imagine a footballer saying that, with his Bentley wrapped around a lamp post, in a ghost-of-xmas-past sort of way.

Just found Draught Guinness 0.0% Did a taste test with alcohol Draught Guinness, absolutely no difference. Drank 6 cans NYE at Jaydees and drove back to the Hotel. Felt really strange drinking 6 cans of Guinness then driving. I don't do soft drinks as don't like how sweet they are. In a swingers club drinking as much beer as I like is definitely a win win. Would never drink to much alcohol in a club but now as much Guinness as I like

You cannot judge non alcoholic beers unless you try them all. There are over 100 different types some good some bad. This is no different to alcoholic beers. Wheat beers and ales are usually best,what they sell in pubs are usually awful like Beck's Blue.

That's because ghost ship is 0.5% low alcohol.

About a tenth of a lot of bottled beers.
