Mmmm not sure about that. Over last couple of years it’s gone downhill! I think we are on version 56 or something of the highly stimulating “fab the person above thread” which brings images of lemmings falling over cliff edges into my head

Yup, they've been trying for decades now. The problem is making is containing the plasma and making itself sustaining. The sun uses gravity to contain it, but we have to use big electromagnets. Because the electromegnets are so power hungry and the plasma needs to be very hot to fuse, getting more energy out than is put in has been the other major hurdle. Another liliting factor is that the container suffers with neutron damage quite quickly so it requires replacement all of the time.
