What is silly is adults having to call each other by Mr/Ms/Miss/Mrs. No other professional does this. Address adults by the first name. It's not about respect as if that was the case everyone would be doing it. It's so bizarre to me.

My students just call me by my actual name. Much easier. Some go for Mrs X but we get past that pretty quickly. Some from the Indian subcontinent use Ma'am, which makes me feel very old

In the west.

I tell my students to use first name. Those that come straight from school, usually boys, tend to call me sir and it can take me a full year to get them to use my name. IMHO sir is very outdated and quite elitist.

When I worked in a school I was personally an advocate of us being called by our first names. I work going into schools now and encourage students to call me by my name rather than sir. On Gender neutral terms, I think it’s a good inclusive thing to adopt. Don’t see what harm comes from it.

Chinese students call us Teacher, to begin with. They acclimatise to using our actual names after a while. I don't like being called Teacher. It makes me feel anonymous.

It's a criticism of the education in terms of attempting to produce cookie cutter kids by only nurturing certain skills rather than acknowledging that we all have different strengths and focusing on building upon the strengths of each individual. In the grand scheme of things, does a musician really need perfect grammar?

I work in a profession that isn't teaching that still has this system above a certain grade.

We're just called by our names. It works well. Some students like to use Miss, Mrs or Mr with your name, e.g. Mrs N, but I prefer they just use my name.

Or its respectful... Try doing that in a professional setting in Germany. They herr professor doktor doktor... Their argument being. They've worked bloody hard to earn their title and so would like people to use it.

Not sure why it needs to change and what the problem with is that is being solved

Surely the whole point of this gender inclusiveness is that we can all choose for ourselves how we want to identify. Males and Females who are comfortable in their existing identity do not need a gender neutral label. Those who want to identify in a different way are able to do so too, whether they choose male/female or something else.

In my opinion, removal of gender identity is just as wrong as enforcing those genders assigned at birth.

Been dating a deputy head for a few years now, it’s completely changed how I view teachers.

The crap that she had to put up with from hopeless / feckless parents is staggering. These parents are unable to exercise any control over their children so often the only time these kids encounter any form of control or even have the word ‘no’ uttered to them is in school.

Vital there is no relaxing of titles in my humble opinion.

I looked for news articles, they were all from february, and it was about one single workshop given at a union meeting?

And as the articles state :

Similarly to obsolete terms like ‘lady doctor’, ‘policeman’ and ‘male nurse’, schools are also advised to adopt more gender-neutral words such as ‘pupils’, ‘students’, ‘child’ and ‘parent’.

I prefer to be addressed as Mrs. so and so.

I'm getting used to companies calling me by my first name but I still don't like it.

They are NOT my friends. I prefer a degree of formality.

First names seeped in company USA wise and is here to stay.

It's a good way of making you relax so that you can be taken advantage of and told shit and sold shit and lies in a very friendly way..... believe me - I am fully aware of the psychology behind it.

Unfortunately, they would need to fund the system better first. There would have to be much smaller class sizes and many more teachers to get anywhere close to this.
