Listened to something today discussing the pros and cons of professional athletes having sex at the Olympics. Interestingly, generally it's not a good idea to have sex just before an event, because it makes many people sleepy, but everybody is different so it's not a hard rule (don't excuse the pun!). Abstention is usually the way forward before an event though.

Do you abstain before a big event, be it sports, work or something else?

There were reports of the athletes having sex after their sports had concluded but before the Closing Ceremony at the London 2012 games.

I think the tabloid headlines were something like 'sexiest games ever' and 'rampant raunchy athletes'.

I don't so much abstain as have abstinence thrust upon me. I'm not sporty but good sex before a major work event used to help me relax and focus.

This is what I heard. In Rio, for 10000 or so athletes they were given an equivalent of about 44 condoms each!! I guess the other thing to bear in mind is that the average age of the athletes is quite low, so many are young, unattached and horny!

As soon as they were out of the comps early they would stay on and " support " their teammates. Track n Field would be there weeks before they started so would be at it everyday ....

I don't believe they have been handing out condoms this time. Athletes in Beijing can arrive just in time to do their event and then have to leave. The Olympic villages are split by venue and so cross country skiiers won't be sharing the same accommodation as, say, curlers because they're in different areas. There's way less chance to fraternise.

I don't abstain before a wheelchair basketball game. In fact, we went to Purple Mamba the night before a big match, back in early 2020 and didn't seem to make any difference.
