Lorries and lorry drivers

You can tell I'm bored, I'm mako g a post lol.

Anyways, what's people's thoughts on lorries on the British roads and also the drivers.

Yes I'm a truck driver so please be nice pmsl........

When I was a kid other road users respected trucks and there drivers, gave them room to move etc, now however it seems everyone is just out to cause us grief on the roads.

Not only that, the ladies of this great nation have stopped flashing us lol..........

I like that they flash their lights to say thank you/ let people in on motorways.

I like that they deliver stuff that we need.

I’ve been a driver, and gave it up recently. I respect the job you all continue to do.

Knowing the difficulties faced when driving, I drive my car or bike in a manor that is as helpful as possible.

I don’t mind that people have stopped flashing now. The roads are far too busy, and other users take so many more unpredictable risks now. I feel that I’d rather drivers concentrated more on the road ahead, than a flash of stocking tops.

Having had a friend do it I think it's a taxing and potentially stressful job. Long periods away from home, less than ideal facilities and sleeping arrangements and strict rules made difficult to follow by lack of provisions for rest stops. Personally lorries make me nervous, not because I think all the drivers are bad but because I know that if we were in a collision, me in my tiny car wouldn't come off very well. I try to avoid sitting between two or alongside one and leave plenty of room when pulling in front of or driving behind one. People who cut up lorries scare the life out of me and so do lorries that tailgate people.

This is true. When there's queues on the motorway and you're queuing on a slip road to get on, it's very often lorry drivers that let you in.

British lorry drivers are fantastic curtious and great drivers. And a nice few like fun in the cab. But some of the eastern european drivers well rude arrogant and not so good including the one that hit my stationery car on the m1 the motorway was doing 5 miles an hour max and he still hit my car because he was not paying attension then made out it was my fault.soon as the highways officer turned up he was all no speak good english

I've worked in the transport industry for years (office worker) and have a huge respect for lorry drivers. Had 5 lorry drivers on my team, they were great!

I'm petrified of them when I see them on the roads though and I dont even drive so I would definitely stay out of the way

I don’t like it when 2 are doing the same speed in both lanes and it takes about 20 minutes for one to overtake hahaha respectful of what you do though and agree most of you have good road manners

I think lorry drivers are people. I don't think the job a person does makes a person more or less special, nice, considerate, rude or anything else for that matter. I have no idea why we tend/try to fetishize certain jobs.

Anybody who drives for a living ought be a better driver than the average road user - especially people in control of vehicles with significantly greater potential to cause harm. On the whole I'd say that this is thankfully true. The fact they have to do so much training shows and I believe this approach should extend to all drivers.
