The tinder swindler isn't the only con man out there. Richard Dexter was jailed for 4 and a half years last week for scamming a woman out of £140k on there.

Romance fraud is a huge issue and is under reported and under prosecuted. I'm not sure any site is free of it.

Coercion of any kind is difficult to recognise when you are the intended target and "groomed" - yes groomed.

Always easy to see in hindsight...

A fool and their money are easily parted

Me if a tinder match says they need 25k because their enemies are after then

“Shit that’s crazy, good luck on that”

To be fair it had gone much more beyond just a tinder match, they had been dating and were a couple, so to speak. I'm unsure of the exact time between events though.

The other considered him as a fairly good friend. Everything up until that point had "proven" to them that he would be good to pay that money back.

I'd certainly be suspicious, regardless but it's certainly not a case of somebody they just met.

I think the way he said he was getting attacked and threatened obviously worked well on the women.

It's all shame on him for doing it though and not really getting much of a punishment.

Hopefully it will be a warning to other women now.

"What’s it showing on? "

Netflix.

And I believe that the duration from the Norwegian lady meeting him to the first request for money was only a few weeks. I would doubt most people would consider themselves a solid couple after three months, but a quote on the scam "Leviev scammed her out of £185,000 in the 13 weeks after their first date".

Despite all of the above, clearly it is he in the wrong and he should be receiving far greater punishment than he's received. He should also be reimbursing the victims.

I need to watch the Anna Sorokin one!!! X I watched the tinder swindler the other night, O M G.

How he created that, insane. Having said that, all the loans he was asking these women, like loan after loan after loan. Insane

I watched this a few days ago. The amount of money he scammed women out of is mind blowing. I can’t believe he basically got away with it. The sentence he did in jail was minimal. They reckon he totalled upto 10million dollars but cos of the way he done it he couldn’t be charged for the fraud. I love how the last woman got her revenge though lol

Yes! He was very persuasive....

In Puppet Master he coerced students into going 'on the run' with him to get away from terrorists...They believed him! One woman was gone for 10 years. How does someone get drawn into that? Does he prey on certain personality types? It's mind-blowing

I think the thing that made those women continue to fund him was the lavish lifestyle he showed them before he started asking for money. If someone is living a multi-millionaire lifestyle, £40k is pocket change for them, so why would you not think that they’re good for it? Plus, he totally bided his time with them and emotionally manipulated them into a false sense of security. That’s a different level of evil.

I like to think that I would have noticed the alarm bells. Especially at the point where I realised that I see their voice and text messages more than I see them. But who knows? Emotional manipulation is an incredibly powerful thing.

I was conned out of a £7k loan, a brand new £16,500 car, and other sundry items, by an ex when I was in my early 20’s. Easily between £25k and £30k worth of credit at a time when I was earning very little money. The same circumstances as The Tinder Swindler - he made it look like he was well off and could pay the money back without a problem. I later found out that the hundreds of thousands of pounds he used to start his business and buy property with was also raised fraudulently. I only just finished off paying for my con two years ago.

Around ten years ago, a married work colleague, who was earning not an insignificant amount of money, started an affair with an Eastern european lady

He bragged about how great she was, the money she had and land she owned, then one day she told him she was pregnant. He asked how would be best to proceed, as he couldn't/didn't want to lose half or more of his property and pension to his long suffering wife.

He was thinking termination of the pregnancy, but she said "give me sixty thousand and I'll go away"

So he paid her without ever seeing proof and has not heard from her since

A few years ago a female friend of mine on here didn’t get swindled but she did have her purse stollen whilst on a social.

Met this guy in pub, had a pretty good social meet, they agreed to meet again… she offered him a lift home as he said he walked… and whilst doing that.. she said he was bending down and said he was doing up his shoe laces.

On the way to where he said he lived, he said if she could just drop him at the corner shop so he could get bits.. she did… he went in… or what she presumed he did.. and she waited.. and waited.. luckily her phone was on charge in the holder so tried to call him to say did he need her to wait… and his phone was off.. that’s when she realized her handbag.. what she placed on the footwell was open in disarray.. and her purse gone.

She did manage to call her bank and block her cards… but got away with everything else including her driving license with her address on.

I managed to get her to report it.. because she was too wary too because of her work as a civil servant and too ashamed… but the police said she was very brave because this happens far too often and people dont report this enough for those reasons.

It is pretty horrific how far these people

Go to make sure they are convincing truly a well thought out long game. But I can’t help think when these ladies clapped site of the guys lifestyle Portrayed on media when they admitted checking him out did they see pound signs themselves and a lavish lifestyle.

If I was on a regular dating site like tinder and a

So called Millionaire hit on me making these claims I’d swerve it thinking surely

If you are would you not be on a site perhaps that catered for People Like you so you didn’t get gold Diggers ?

I’m by no means saying these women are stupid or deserve this but I can’t help think if

You wasn’t blinded by the cash you MAY not have got stung.

Dealt with a lot of victims of fraud in a previous job. From Doctors and Lawyers to Checkout staff.

The thing about fraudsters is they’re not stupid and I’ve spoken to a few. Even when I know they’ve swindled people out of money and I often have the proof in front of me, they’re very convincing with their pleas of innocence. So I can well understand how anyone can be fooled by these con men or women.

I never blame the victims of fraud it’s like being punched out of the blue in the street. You’re not expecting it, think that it’ll never happen to you and the pain is shock as much as the blow hurts. You’ll struggle afterwards to trust anyone, even those who are trying to help you.

25 years ago a family member got involved with a woman who was a compulsive liar and scammer.

To cut a very long story short she name dropped people I knew which set my spidey senses tingling and after doing my own investigations discovered she had cleaned out his bank account to use in a greater scheme.

I found estate agents, landowners, a solicitor and up to 20 individual business people that she was in the process of swindling.

The deals in place were worth approx £600k but as no legal documents had been signed at that point the actual amount lost was about £70k.

When I confronted her she claimed mental health issues and her parents threatened me with legal action despite all the hard evidence I presented them with.

I passed it all to the police who uncovered an even bigger scam involving HMRC and bank managers, none of whom were directly involved but had their names bandied around as part of the scam.

There were fake references to get 2 seperate jobs with multinational retailers and other deals I was unaware of, bringing the total scam to over 1 million pounds.

She was never charged with anything because of her mental health history which was backed up by medical records and a few years later was selected by one of the local political parties to stand as a candidate in a council election

She was removed from the ballot following complaints from numerous people including all those she had scammed.

It deffo was an eye opener tho

I nearly got stunned myself a few yrs ago

Started chatting to a guy on pof

Seemed ok

Convo goin ok

Swapped numbers

Mayb a get piccys

Only ones I have on her

He didn't have much in reply to questions I asked tho

Each seemed to be either yes

Thrn nxt day gets a msg off his so called brother saying if I didn't give him

This brother 5grand he was gonna process piccys all over social media of me

I msg the brother the one I had been chatting with

Even he said if I cud mayb give his brother 2grand he wud cover the rest

The brother was asking for bsnkk transfer ie just to get my bank details

No fuclin chance

I offered it in cash in person to him (had no intention of it tho)

He said he wanted it in transfer mayb over 2 instalments over a few days

I said if he met me n I wud provide the cash

He was threatening me more

But I gave as good as I hot off him

I wentbout in a date with a fella off here, told him all about it

Then they both msg me separately on that afternoon wen I was on date

Needless to say he took over on my behalf

N told him to start panicking cos it had been reported to police

Got crime no

They got his details through the imei code from his fone as police managed to trace the number

So much so they even msg me from a business number which even came up based down south some how

So my date told thrm to except a knock on their door from the police to arrest them for fraud

NEVER HEARD NOWT FTOM EITHER IF THE BROTHERS AFTER THAT

plus we hadn't even reported anythin to police

My date had a relative who worked in cid he told her wat had happened an she told him to tell me what to say to thrm to put the shits up them

Hence why I am very weary myself on here at times now

I agree. There were certainly many red flags but also it is often much easier to see the problems in the situation when you are outside looking in, and know the context of what was happening. I mean it's not like anybody went in to watching it not knowing what it's about.
