Surely as a swinger you'd wanna know your HIV a status never mind what someone else says?

Also... if he's just promoting for everyone to know their status ... carrying on the charitable work for HIV that his mother did - then good on him

For someone who lists safe sex as one of their interests, this seems like a strange hill to die on.

I have zero interest in the royals as a brand or institution, but the more public figures encouraging regular testing, early and effective treatment and u=u, the better in my book.

We get tested every 3 months (if we're meeting) for a full std screen including HIV. It amazes us that people having encounters don't bother.

Indeed. And if everyone got tested, you'd find all HIV+ people and be able to offer them treatment, which can make HIV a managed condition for most people. You'd also be able to prevent unintended transmission, and in time be able to eradicate the virus. Not saying it'll ever happen, but can't be a bad thing to lend support to!

Just remember you need to wait at least 2 weeks after for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea to be detectable and 3 months for HIV.

I remember when people were dying in this country. Knowing your status means you can get treatment and live with undetectable HIV on PrEP.

Interview with Gareth Thomas - harry encouraged people to ‘know their status’ that’s all. Not a big deal. Although, apparently, when Harry took an HIV test in 2016, the live broadcast contributed to a 500% increase in the number of people requesting a test on the Terrence Higgins Trust website.

Can’t really be a bad thing. Particularly, give the numbers of people that aren’t concerned enough about their sexual health to insist on safe sex.

Why would you not get tested regularly?!?! You only know your HIV status from getting tested. Safe sex ISN’T safe sex - it’s is “safer” sex. There are no guarantees. Accidents still happen.

It’s heartwarming to see that there are so many people on this thread who aren’t scared of getting tested.

It’s even more heartwarming to see that there are people on this thread who know that a HIV+ person CANNOT infect others if they are taking medication and have an undetectable viral load. Undetectable = Untransmissable. HIV is nothing to be scared of, now. It’s an inconvenience, at best! Some people might find that claim scary, but it’s the truth.

Prince Harry has said what he has said because new HIV infections are now, for the first time, higher in heterosexuals than they are in homosexual men. So, plainly put, more straight people are getting HIV than gay people, now.

Us gays have had HIV shoved down our throats for decades, now (no pun intended). I came out in the 90’s, and, personally, I have seen scores of my friends die from HIV related complications. Even after combination drug therapy was introduced and the number of guys dying started to drop, I was STILL losing friends to suicide brought on by depression from residual health complications related to the damage HIV had done to their bodies over the years.

To refuse to get tested just because someone they don’t like is trying to bring awareness to the current situation, is so incredibly ignorant and disrespectful, and they should be embarrassed that their toxic masculinity is blinding them so much that it’s stopping them making informed decisions about their own health, and the health of others.

It's better for people to be informed about their status. And even better to have universal affordable and available treatment. Ending any residual stigma is great too.

100%

I think the OP is just confused and angry about a lot of things - his posts seem to lurch wildly around various things that make him angry with no congruence or internal logic.

Harry just seems to be the latest target.

Sadly, though, that’s the same with all sorts of prejudice. It’s the same gut feeling of “I don’t like” or “that’s different” that drives homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism…

If she’s on medication and undetectable she isn’t going to pass anything on, so why should she say anything?

Obviously it would be a different matter if she wasn’t taking medication and she was still infectious, but the only people who are infectious, these days, are the people who wilfully don’t take medication, or people who don’t know that they’re positive. Which leads us right around in a circle, back to the start - get tested!
