What strategies do you have for dealing with it?

Many of us struggle with the feelings of disappointment. Not only on fab but more broadly in life. Part of reading and engaging with this forum has, for me, been consciously reflecting on how I deal with these feelings. I am curious about how others do it, not least because there appear to be lots of thoughtful and articulate people on here

I have a sulk, wallow in self pity for a bit, then maybe find the humour in it and move on.

Guess it depends what the situation is really.

Thanks. I think finding the humour in things is a great way to approach life in general

Depends what it is:

Mostly I just try and accept what has been has been and that you can’t change what’s happened.

But the European Championship Final last Summer at Wembley? After being lucky enough to attend, I’ve just stuck my head in the sand and refused to watch a minute of it ever since!

I am lucky as I am a true optimist.

When I sink low I know it is only for a short while, apart from the loneliness of lockdown that went on too long.

But mostly it's I quickly self analyse whether the situation truly requires disappointment. Every cloud does seem to have a silver lining

Fair enough mate won’t start singing Neil Diamond then…

Not far

I have to remind myself to emotionally separate myself from the situation, then turn my focus to something else.

Interesting. That sounds a bit like something I try to do too.

Depends what it is. Sometimes I have a lip tremble moment, other times a sweary hissy fit. In private.

Once had a sweaty hissy fit during a Teams meeting, thought I have turned off the camera and mic and it transpired I had not

I had to offer some profuse apologies but the other people did see the funny side… I think I’ve got away with not earning a nickname for it yet

I had similar for a job interview using Zoom. My screen showed no sign of any connection. After 10 mins of increasingly frustrated swearing and hitting of buttons I finally got a picture only for the interview panel to say they'd been watching me all the time.

I didn't get the job.

Situation dependant really, I always try to accept what it is though and get past it.

Work to resolve what can be resolved and not try to get to miffed on those that cannot be changed really

I did a lot of reading about stoicism after my marriage break up. So I now try to concentrate on what I can control, over what is happening around me or even to me.

So I do try to live in the now, get through this hour, then day, then week and try to not worry whereabouts I’ll be in a years time or longer.

But I do think we ruminate too much over the occasional dark times in our lives and forget we’ve also had good times and periods of just living a content life.

It depends what it's based on. I generally aim to learn what I can from things, perhaps taking some decisions on how I can change things. I respect my feelings and just move on, job done.

If it needs a chat with a friend, I'll have it, maybe a hug.

I feel like I recognise that tendency to over think in myself. Being content is underrated
