it's her music I don't like, couldn't give a shit about what she said in all honesty. However it works both ways does it not? She is entitled to her opinion, of course she is, no need for her to be branded a TERF, which is a derogatory term, so her rights and feelings weren't being respected there were they.

I understood why they had separate categories years and years ago, because without it female artists just wouldn’t have won. But the industry has come to far since then and we just don’t need separate categories for industries where one gender/sex doesn’t have an advantage. And yes, having them as male and female is exclusionary to artists who are non binary and music is something that has to move with the times so having one category makes sense. I applaud Adele for her comments but I don’t see what she said as her taking a swipe at all. Surely if you’re going to win, you’d rather know you’ve beat ALL the other artists than just some of them?

When it comes to music, I can’t see why the gender of the artist is relevant to who win best r&b or up and coming or whatever.

It just happens to be more inclusive as a result of them realising that. Perhaps they didn’t need to make so much of it and make it sound like it was done just for the non binary artists and so on.

No harm in being proud of your gender though. I’m proud to be a woman too.

The trouble is I don't know the wider context in terms of her wider beliefs. So all I can do is take her statement at face value. And from how I see it she is saying she is proud to be a woman in a world that is tough to be a woman in. Which I think is quite understandable. I don't see any negativity towards anyone on who is another gender or not Cis. I don't think to say I am proud of my background and history is to say others shouldn't be here or is not valid. I think it's just a call to say let's not let the challenges women face smoothered in a blanket of generic goo. We all have different identities, history, challenges and oppression. We are not a big homogeneous blob, we have differences and that ok, not something to pretend doesn't exist. I think to do so does a disservice to everyone, their identity and what they've been through. Difference should be celebrated, not whitewashed.

Often these sort of things are a gift for both extreme sides of the culture war. Both sides have always fed off each other and I think mutually need each other. The left (for want of a better term) will call TERF and the right (likewise for want of a more accurate term) will call look how ridiculous political correctness has got and make a big thing of it too. I my eyes they are both ridiculous and intend on causing social disharmony from something that shouldn't really be a issue.

However I could be totally wrong (I try and see the best in people) and it turn out she's a massive TERF which is not cool.

In any case the lack of Old English being used here indicates people being reasonably comfortable (even if unconsci0usly so) with the idea that language develops and evolves in use. Dictionaries are descriptive rather than prescriptive.

Yeah, using they and them in the right way and context is fine and the way we are taught to speak, using they and them is not only hard to remember and fit to the right situation, bearing in mind they are two of many many different pronouns, it is also downright rude in most situations to use… it also sounds like you weren’t taught how to speak properly “this is Barbara, them works in our it department”. There’s a proper way to structure sentences and non gendered pronouns aren’t part of that.

No, but there is a proper gendered word that makes that sentence easy to put together. She. You could use they quite a bit easier in that sentence, but, people usually process the information to refer to someone quite visually, which is why non gendered pronouns are a sticky situation, especially in a place where accidental misgendering can be punished, because anyone can slip and accidentally use a gendered pronoun to refer to a gender fluid person in the wrong moment and be accused of doing it purposefully.

my daughter used to cut her arms as a young teen and I had no clue as to why!till she felt she could tell me ! Which I felt so guilty about for not realizing! Alot of parents say they knew at a young age but I really had no idea! She was allways very complex having aspergers as well! She did tell me she considered takeing her life thank god she didnt! Happy to say she is happy now living in florida! I am proud of my 6 children! But especially of her for the journey she has faced and still faces xx

I struggled using they for a while. Just because it wasn't language I was accustomed to. I still somewhat automatically go back to he or she on occasion (I worked with a trans man for a few years) and no-one has ever had a go at me. There’s always this argument when things start to run out, the skeleton (FFS procedures for example work on shaving bone to feminise the cranium/face . To further make the point: if an archeologist find my remains, they will see that:

a) I have a much smaller frame than most men

b) My bone density suggests prolonged low levels of testosterone

c) I had facial feminisation procedures done

…and they will likely conclude I'm a trans woman

I don’t think you can include labelling bigotry as name-calling though. Have a search for “Allport’s Ladder” and other writing on the short route from hate speech to genocide.
