I’ve had success on both, but would pick Gumtree over Marketplace. The latter has some proper nutters!

Maybe I should stick with Gumtree. I don’t use Facebook. Seems a hassle to download it just to see some unused things.

Facebook by a long shot! I tend to share items in the local selling groups and it's much quicker. And more interest.

Okay...getting FB marketplace. No harm in advertising on both.

I was doing that but I figured out I always sold on FB. Depends on what you're selling of course

I gave some stuff away free on FB marketplace recently - what a bloody chore that was!

People wanting more photos of the items (I’d uploaded about a dozen) then not turning when they agreed.

Maybe you’ll have better luck with paid items but trying to do the decent thing and give something away for free was too much hassle.

A world all of his own

My niece sells a lot of her kids old clothes and toys on FB marketplace and they seem to go pretty quickly with minimal hassle.

Photos seems to take longer to upload on FB marketplace compared to Gumtree.

As an aside. Dont download the app. It is data and battery heavy. I use FB rarely and go in via Google.

Appreciate this - yeah this is why I was weary of FB.

Well....FB is a bit disappointing. It’s not allowing me to upload more than 4 adverts: “limit reached. As you are new to marketplace, there’s a temporary limit on how much you can list and message.”

"What type of stuff are you selling?"

You know the standard... flat screen television, books, dirty knickers.

Worthing

More buyers on fbm although there are a lot of scammers. Only sell to people if you can determine their profile is local.

Freecycle in my area doesn’t have the same reach as FB so opted for the quick win.

I’ve actually used Freecycle before to give an old sofa away when the council wanted me to wait 6 weeks for a paid collection.
