Apparently more people ring in sick on this day than any other day of the year.

What’s the best reason you’ve gave or heard for calling in sick?

Manchester (she/her)

I once had to have my mum call in for me. I'd lost my voice, and it was phone in only (even at the time the lack of email option was a bit old fashioned). It was legitimate, I couldn't speak at all and I needed to for the job, but I was far too old to have my mummy do such things - and it was terribly embarrassing

A friend was in hospital having his tonsils removed and had his wife ring in for him. His supervisor told his wife that he was breaking company policy and had to ring in himself

Good grief

Thankfully my boss understood. I might or might have been rasping instructions at my mum in the background, I can't remember. Or maybe I wrote it down. (Laryngitis)

I had to call in sick because I was stuck in Newcastle. We went across for the weekend to see some friends but I came down with an awful stomach and sickness bug, I was very early on in my pregnancy too which added to it. Our friends gave up their room so I could sleep in their bed for about 2-3 days. I ended up in hospital in Newcastle before I could manage sitting in the car for 3 hours

Yes, my boss didn't believe me, yes I showed him a note from the hospital (I asked for one because I knew they wouldn't believe me).

Was it an emergency rather than a scheduled operation ?

I guess it was an emergency otherwise his work would have known about it.

The RVI? If so at least you were in a good hospital.

We had a very complicated pregnancy with our first. We were in hospital weekly for scans and anti-d injections. The amount of notes they had to write for me to take into work was ridiculous. My boss even wanted me to scan my wife’s pregnancy notes

In the west.

I was told by someone who said he couldn't get out of his livingroom as the door was stuck.

He sent me a video of him trying the door, but all I could see was him working the handle up and down.

A world all of his own

Erm, that I had the flu. When in fact I was in the Lake District for a week, being best man to one of my best mates
