Do you lie?

I find it almost impossible to lie to anyone at all, and when I think there's no other way I'm consumed with guilt.

The older I get, the more I'm seeing how much lying is a normal part of life for most people and I really don't understand why.

Of course, that could all be a lie

Do you do it? Do you feel guilty about it? Want to share any that you're proud of embarrassed about?

It’s difficult for me too.

I have to keep up my lie and very day.

I’m the crowned prince of a far far away land and came to the middle of England to escape my life of great riches and many beautiful wives.

Nobody knows what it’s like to keep these secrets so I may live a normal life in peace.

“No, your bum looks fine in that”

That’s acceptable tbf, isn’t it?

I lie many times every day. I don't feel guilty at all.

People only lie for two reasons, to protect others or to protect theirselves. Me personally, I find it hard to lie and will always be honest in most situations. I think people appreciate it and always know where they stand with me.

I was always told "to be a good liar you have to have a good memory". I haven't and to be fair the person would be more hurt that I lied to their face than what I'd actually say if telling the truth. So prefer the latter.

Depends on the situation. Something serious then no. Something I don’t care about? Then yes if it means I get to spend as little time as possible involved in it.

No and not even white lies, how can I expect my daughter to always tell the truth if I tell lies?

Truth always for me

Oh no no no! Most often I've seen is to get their own way, or get something they don't deserve.

Selfishness. That's another thing I can't do.

I agree with the rest though. I'd rather be respected for being truthful about a fuck-up than live with knowing I lied for a cover-up.

I hate to lie to people. Only time I have is to make others feel better about themselves. Surely that's allowed

I lie all the time.

"Yes I'm fine" to my parents

" No you haven't already asked what you're having for lunch" to my mum

" Thanks I love it" to some people who give me odd gifts

"You look great" to friends who ask how they look on a night out

The list goes on. Very few people are 100% truthful I think there are times when it's unkind to be

I pride myself on my honesty. I guess I tell the odd white lie, but nothing I’d lose sleep over.

I lie all the time. I’m not consumed by guilt about any of it. Nothing I lie about would cause me to feel that way. Honesty is greatly overrated.

Everyone lies. Some are just better at it than others. If we told the truth all the time it would just cause arguments.

I agree, also what I perceive to be the truth isn't always the same as someone else's perception

I don't generally lose any sleep.... They are generally boosting other people and improving their day

I'd rather people lied to me and told me they love the gift, the food was amazing, my dress looks great or my boobs are their favourite... I have enough negativity (honesty) in my life and that shit stings

Yes I do. I'm not going to say they're white lies because a lie is a lie. But generally they're done being mindful of the other person, to be grateful and/or kind. I'd rather say to another that I'm not bothered by something, give them a boost or whatever than make a person feel crap.

I think we all lie, to varying degrees.

I know that I do.

I recently lied to work to get a day off. Wouldn't have had to if they knew how to be reasonable....the needs of the business and all that.

What a cop out that is!

Isn't the next part of the story that you have $10m being held in trust in a bank account and that if you're sent bank details you'll happily share the contents of the account?!

Same. Possibly the worst insult someone can pay me is to question my honesty or integrity.

Is being 100% honest (if that's possible) a virtue, a good character trait to possess?

What is the difference between honesty and opinion?

Grieving relative to doctor

"Did my loved one suffer terribly at the end?"

Doctor "yes, they were in unbearable pain and they were terrified of dying"

Or

"No they passed away peacefully"

I know what I'd be saying

I think too many people think their opinion is the same as the truth. It's not.

Agreed..

When my Dad was very ill he asked me if he was going to die, no way was I going to lie to him when he in my opinion was asking if I and my siblings were ok with him going which he knew full well was imminent..

Our daughter asked me was Santa real when she was 3, so I lied and said yes and fine with that..

I definitely lie. When my parents ask, when they drop off the kids, what we did with our day, are we really going to tell them we invited a man round for a threesome? I'll stick to keeping my personal life to myself. Call it discretion

My kids are amazing liars. I choose to believe it's a sign of intelligence and not because they're sneaky little sh*ts
