Newspapers reporting the new craze of cyclists deliberately riding slowly in the middle lane and taking selfies of the tailback behind them. Yet another cycling story but this really is all over the news

In my part of North London and surrounding parts of North London we have had cycle lanes for about 3-4 years which are hardly used.If I was a cyclist I would use the cycle lanes as if I cycled in the middle of the road I only need to break suddenly or skid and I would almost certainly be hit and killed. It just seems crazy to me to allow cyclists to use the middle of the road it a fatality waiting to happen is it ?

I'd be interested in knowing the qualifications you have that enable you to label the new changes as crazy. They've been put in place after public consultation and working with a number of road user groups including the Institute of Advanced Motorists and RoSPA not to mention cycling campaign groups.

Personally I prefer to listen to the opinion of experts and accept they know their fields of expertise better than I so I'm curious as to your logic that the changes in law are fatalities waiting to happen. It seems unlikely that this is a situation that cyclists would lobby for, let alone the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

OP, I don't doubt there are a number of arsehole cyclists behaving in anti social ways. They're the same type of people who (when in cars) deliberately come up behind a cyclist and blast their horn or have their mates lean out the window and scream or throw water as they fly past for absolutely no reason other than that they think it is fun (an incident like this occurs on average once in every 50 miles or so that I cycle)

The world is full of cunts. Some ride bikes, some drive cars, most do both.

Mr

Stop ‘pedalling’ this nonsense, we are ‘tyred’ of it. Are you a ‘spokesperson’ for the anti bike brigade?

Mr"

. I did not say the new changes are crazy I said they seem crazy to me to my way of thinking these are two different statements aren’t they ?. I have no qualifications to say the changes are crazy which is why I used the word seems.Mine is a personal opinion and no more than that but as I said I feel a sudden braking by a cyclist is the middle of the road and I feel it’s a almost certain fatality as the car behind will have no chance in breaking safely. As a car driver the laws have been passed and I will be more vigilant of cyclist who cycle in the middle of the road.If in a few years time there are stats to say that cycling in the middle of the road is safer than I am more than happy to accept the findings but until then I remain sceptical.

St Austell

Highway Code Rule 68:

“You must not ride in a dangerous, careless, or inconsiderate manner.”

Taking selfies while riding would be deemed careless - maximum fine £1,000.
