I’ve been thinking for a while to give this a proper go. Some of the ladies can really move on the dance floor, and my legs feel so rigid as I try to keep up.

Any other chaps thinking the same or already into classes?

And general question for all, how long before you felt you were actually getting some decent rhythm? How many lessons, classes ect…

I used to have 2 left feet,a friend dragged me along to a Ceroc class ... loved it

Ended up becoming a teacher ... find something you enjoy and you end up relaxing into it ... my motto with any dance moves

Smile when it works, laughwhen it doesn't

Just relax and let it flow

The first few sessions/ weeks/ months it seems like such an uphill battle, but with practice & perseverance there is a day where it just falls into place & makes sense. Then onwards, it gets super crazy fun.

Bit like learning to drive, when you get to the day the mechanics of controlling the vehicle become habitual, and you can focus on the hazards. So don't give up until you've got past that bit. Timing depends on frequency of practice.

There are some great instructors in Oxford if you can get over there, they will really be able to help you

I’d love to learn to salsa but I think I’d just look like a big elephant jumping around

A friend took me to my first salsa lesson about 13 years ago. I loved it. I went pretty much every week for 3 years until I got pregnant and the morning sickness kicked in. I introduced my husband to it too. I finally got back to it in 2019 but haven't been back since covid hit.

Honestly it's great fun. You'll get the rhythm soon enough. 1, 2, 3...5, 6, 7... It's just getting the hang of where to put your feet.

There's such a variety of people that go. I was one of the youngest. People there were all shapes, sizes and ages. Two of the women were blind. Everyone was so kind and friendly.

Even if you're not very good you learn a few moves and can have fun on the dance floor. My husband and I still dance together in the kitchen or sitting room if a song comes on with the right beat
