So as I’ve midnight tonight I can no longer claim to be in my late 30s

Which tbh I don’t know how I feel about it! it’s just a number I know but How did that even happen it’s flown by in a blink of an eye its crazy

How did you feel when you turned 40?!!

Happy birthday fellow Aquarian! It was my birthday on Monday

40 wasn’t so bad. It is a little odd as 40 used to be ancient but now it feels ok. Most of the people i work with are young enough to be my offspring but no one believes that I am as old as I am so as long as I can keep up with the kids then all is good

Have a great birthday x

I didn’t see it as a number, it’s a milestone birthday and that was it. I have always remained active and enjoying things I have always done, and I was the same at 50… in my head I’m still a lot younger

It's better than turning 50 that's for sure. Things start to ache... Hangovers take longer to clear... But you have more wisdom. Enjoy your birthday.

I’m only a year in and it has taken some adjustment in terms of how I think about myself tbh. Like many people, I still keep wondering when I’ll feel like a proper grown up… maybe it’ll be in the 40s…

I looked forward to turning 40. I imagined I'd wake up as a proper sensible, sophisticated real adult. 40 is properly grown up, isn't it?

Didn't work out that way.

Maybe 50 will be the turning point.

It didn't bother me at all. The only birthday I've been upset about so far is when I turned 20...I thought I'd have to be sensible and boring all the time when I wasn't a teenager any more (that still hasn't happened over 20 years later )

I like "special" birthdays, it means people make an even bigger fuss of me than on normal birthdays...but I admit I'm a bit of a princess when it comes to birthdays

I'm not doing too well with this aging malarkey & I'm not far off 49. However, I've made lots of changes during this decade that I wouldn't have had the guts to do when I was younger- I got out of a 22 year marriage, full of gaslighting & unhappiness, finally finished my weightloss journey, have had 5 skin removal surgeries (alone in Poland) & have had the BEST nsa sex I could ever have believed possible, mostly with delightful 30 somethings!!!

My advice would be just LIVE IT!! Life is a terminal illness, let's grow old disgracefully & go out kicking & screaming in pleasure!!!

Happy cake day xxx

Apart from the milestone nature of the number, turning 40 wasn't a big deal and was more of an excuse for a party than anything else.

As I have progressed through my 40s my outlook is changing noticeably, mostly in good ways although I am definitely becoming grouchier in my interactions with the general public!

I'm 40 on Saturday, I hate the idea of it as I've always been a "young lad" even through my 30's and lived accordingly, I never really factored in being old!

I'm just taking comfort in the fact I barely look any different to how I did 12 years ago, I've always had a baby face and I'm in great shape, and even got all my hair still which makes me look far younger than all the baldilocks I went to school with that I see on Facebook

I don't like it though, I wish time could have frozen in my mid 20's, I miss being that age

The last 18 months of my 30s were some of the hardest times I've encountered, so I was excited to turn 40. It felt like a new chapter, and I was looking forward to it starting.

My actual birthday was so very disappointing, but I had an amazing day the week after.

My 40s so far haven't been quite as I had envisaged in a lot of ways, but there is still 7 years left of them so I'm sure that will change.

Happy birthday OP, may it be your best decade yet x

Turning 40 isn't sore, it's just a bugger as it starts with a 4 in stead of a 3. Every additional year is a nightmare as I still feel 18, so when I look in the mirror I get a huge scare!! The beautiful South said it best - time takes its toll, but not on the eyes. They still expect to see us as youngsters. Being 40 only really annoys me as I can't chat up people in their 20s anymore; and they seem like the come from an entirely different millennium I wish I was 20 years younger- sex has moved on in leaps and bounds in that time!!

Many happy returns! I’m 40 in August. Perhaps in many ways this imminent landmark birthday coupled with my new found singleness it’s what’s prompted me to join this place. I’ve thought about doing this for a long time.

The rational part of me knows age is just a number and you will too. Keep enjoying yourself and you’ll feel a good 10-15 years younger and if you’re anything like me you’ll know yourself far better now than you did in your mid 20s…

"It’s just a number. When I turned 30 I lost my husband four months later. He was 32. He should’ve been 40 the year before last. This year I’ll turn 40 and I’ll be embracing it.

I don’t feel my age anyway, just grab life by the balls and enjoy it

What are we doing for your 40th?! X

Not much of a drinker so I’m in the middle of getting a thigh tattoo done. Actually just arrived and about to head in, rocking 40s in style x"

That’s cool, I’ve often thought about getting inked but never had the guts - that and I’m quite indecisive about what image I’d actually get done

I was actually pretty happy about turning 40, my 30s were great and had loads of good things in, but it was only in the last few years of them that I felt like I had actually found me and my style. I have soo much more confidence now, and I know that my 40s are gonna be full of filthy fun!

MJ x

I was fine with 40. 50 not so much but like others have said it’s better than the alternative!

I felt exactly the same mentally. However the body started to fail.

I'm 45 (feel like I'm 20 inside) but life and circumstances make me feel more like I'm 75 most of the time. Sometimes I feel like my life is over.

Happy birthday ??

Turning 40 was no big deal to me, but I'm 50 next month, so I'm starting to think and worry a little more of my ageing parents health and the fact I am much nearer the mortician than the midwife.

But 40 is good ??.

I'm skydiving for mine on Saturday, I've done it before many years ago so it's not a new experience, but in these covid times it has been difficult to plan anything big when I had no idea when restrictions would be lifted. Hitting terminal velocity with a big smile on face will be a reminder that I may be aging but I'm still very much alive with that youthful sense of adventure
