"Don't know about the colour, but it's possible to get some amazing deals in refurbished equipment. I've used a place called Intelligent Servers in Harrogate (you'll have to google it, can't post the link) that refurbs ex-office HP and Dell equipment. They give a proper 3 year warranty on everything, and your £500 could get you something that equivalent spec would be a couple of thousand new. I used them to get a new desktop machine a couple of years ago, got a HP twin Xeon processor, 6 core / 12 thread per processor, 3 GHz, 48 GB of RAM... Four hundred quid. Anything equivalent new would have been at least 4 grand... Just saying really that new laptops are a bit like new cars - very bright and shiny, but lose 50% of their value the moment you carry them out of the showroom. Though refurb computer equipment is like used cars - only buy from somewhere that's got a decent reputation, and that will give you full warranty." Very useful thank you very much

I've got a HP that needs replacing, even though I only bought it in 2005!

"What are you actually going to be using it for OP; gaming, 3D art, word processing? LvM" Just normal stuff like email, browsing and such like. I have another one which I use for all the power hungry stuff that's why I don't want to spent more than that. Thanks.

"I am looking for an additional one, has to be aluminium silver (yes not keen on those black ones) and no much more than around £500. Any recs? Thanks. " I have an hp 17 ca3500na1, 17.3" amd ryzen 5, 1tb hdd, 256gb ssd silver. Bought from PC World. Excellent all-rounder. I use the SSD for programs, and the HDD for data, fast start up, programs load quickly, and the SSD frees up the full HDD storage space.

"Google “best £500 laptop” and follow links to reputable PC/tech website. Will probably yield better , more current and specific advice than I’ve hot a 13 inch one or mine cost a grand. For email and browsing and light ‘office’ work do you have to have windows? Maybe a chrome book might be more cost effective? Good luck. " But yep, Google is your best bet. Or amazon warehouse deals. It'll depend what you need it for or what you may need it for in the future. Does it have to be a certain colour? SSDs are faster than HDDs but obviously cost more. How many programs will you have open at once? Is it just a "leisure laptop"? Or will you have software/remote desktops on it? You could go into different tech shops and ask for their advice too.

Having had the time to look, mine is a Dell Latitude 7400 series and it's a 14" screen, not 13". I'm sure that inch makes all the difference. It's a very good business machine, I use it for exactly the same purposes you, the OP, have indicated you would need it for. A quick Google suggests this particular model is no longer available new but may well be available refurbished. If you can find one in your price range, it's a good laptop. And you can get silver ones.

"Wish I had an answer. Mine cost me £1K Mine too lol but I love Mac so worth it " My old one broken one day whilst WFH. Took it to the works IT company they use and they said it was done so had to search for a new one and of course, everyone had been buying them but I needed a decent one with enough whatever to handle all the software I use. Ended up with a gaming pc (conveniently as husband plays online sometimes ). It's a great laptop though and glad I spent that *bit* extra.
