I dont like the film

Its not funny and I actually find bill Murray very annoying in everything he does...in real life he acts like an eccentric but I bet he gets very tedious very quickly

Happy groundhog day everyone x

Somewhere In The Ether…

I personally found the film vastly overrated although don’t mind Bill Murray.

There are however, many sci fi films which utilise the premise of temporal loops far better in my opinion:

The TV movie, 12.01 for instance and the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, ‘Cause And Effect.’

More recently the temporal loop plot device popped up in the Frank Grillo actioner, Boss Level which was admittedly rather fun

I also find the whole premise of the film a bit sinister. He fancies the Andie MacDowell character and wants to shag her, but she doesn’t want to shag him. So he manipulates her by pretending to be something he isn’t by changing character over the coming (recurring) days until she finally succumbs and he gets inside her pants.

All sounds a bit #MeToo for my liking and a bit rap-ey tbf.

And yeah, I agree OP, he seems a bit of a dry one-trick pony and the joke would wear thin after a while. Probably.

You have failed to see the entire point of the film. Being a creep doesn't get him anywhere in fact it's what is keeping him from moving on. He has to become a better person and she naturally falls in love with him.

I like the film very much. I do not like Bill Muray but he is perfect in this role. Nobody likes him and he does not give a fck. But once he understands he can not get away from the same situation day after day he tries (thanks to Ali McDowel as well), to better himself (learning to play piano etc), help others and yes at the end he becomes likeable by everyone (especially his colleagues) and finds love.

A memorable film with unusual plot and various kinds of good humour.

I’m just a cynical bastard and can see right through the games these Television people play! You can’t teach an old dog new tricks etc

I bet 6 months down the line she’s sacked him off and he’s back to his old ways!

Maybe.
