How I hate Funerals

Just Ben to the same venue for yet another funeral. I have to say I hate them, horrible experience every time and don't get any fookin easier

Nope.

I tend to go a bit numb at funerals but the most recent one we went to was an ex navy man and the dignified lowering of the flags by members of the British Legion as the curtains closed across his coffin was a very emotional sight.

Not at all, everyone deals with the experience differently. Some cry, some walk out as too much and others are stiff upper lipped. There is no right or wrong way, just everyone’s natural reaction at the time.

I dislike burial services been to too many and military ones with bugles go through the toughest of men .

But modern crematorium services seem less formal with the vicars becoming more like dj's playing more music and less about the individuals life.

But thanks to a Dave Allen sketch

As the curtain is about to close I keep expecting to see a Supermarket next customer please on the conveyor.

I know it's a sad time but the above takes the edge off it.

I refuse to go to any more funerals, I can fairly justify it without anyone having a go at me, I've had to bury 3 of my children 2008,2014 and 2020 I was the sole Pall bearer of 2 tiny white coffins for my son and daughter, then myself and brothers for my 6 year old sons in 2020. I don't even want to go to my own funeral.

Funerals are always brutal mate , never gets any easier like you say and as time goes on you start attending more of them than weddings . It’s a tad grim .

Now you see I like a good funeral.

I like to here about people’s lives before I knew them , a good eulogy can make all the difference. I’d rather listen to some interesting anucdotes than music at a funeral.

I like to catch up with people I haven’t seen for years

I like to reflect on my association with the deceased and share a laugh with others about memories we have.

You can be respectful and show sadness without having a downer on everything.

This is just my view and obviously others will have theirs.

I couldn't speak at all and had to make jestures.

I texted cousin later to apologise and explain I was too upset to speak to him or anyone else. I'm really glad I didn't start crying

You should never apologise for showing emotion, especially not at something like a funeral. Everyone deals with their emotions differently and so just because others appeared "ok" at the service, it's quite possible they felt the same as you, inwardly.

I have no idea how I sang the poem I sang at my Grandad's funeral in Feb 2021. But I did.

I went to my besties mum’s funeral this morning

I cried tons! But it was such a beautiful service and memory of her life!

I wish I could have a 61st wedding anniversary

It was beautiful to hear how 62 years ago they met and instantly fell in love and how that love stayed so strong for so long

Although I am ready to not attend another for years to come xx
