I do because it could be someone calling regarding my father's medical appointments or when he is admitted into hospital.

It may also be our landlords, or my own employer.

I do, in case it's the hospital or something important.

I don't answer numbers that aren't in my contacts unless it's a local area code.

I always do, but normally it's in anticipation of some fucker trying to do me - a car crash that I seem to have forgotten I was in or bloody solar panels that I don't have. I love venting at those horrible bastards, it makes the call worthwhile!

One option we use, is to answer as a business, is amazing how many scammers hang up immediately. The genuine callers just ask for the person they were expecting.

I was about to say the same. Also I'm the contact for my parents Lifeline and they don't always call from the same number.

Funnily enough, the cold callers seem to be calling from a registered number now. I answered a call from 0207xxxxx in the past week.

It was a girl from Vodafone telling me they were offering to sell me the latest iPhone at 10% of its price. You can imagine my excitement and to top it off, I could be released from my current plan and be moved onto the lower priced unlimited plan without any penalty.

How could I resist? All they needed was my prepayment of £50 first. I had to have her ring me back 3 times because I was about to head into a meeting, then was having lunch and my wallet wasn't with me and finally, I lost interest and had to politely tell her I already have what I need and another phone would be pointless.

I also advised her, very politely, that her bosses were con-men and she would be better off finding another job.

Nope. I also don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t recognise. Too many times I have answered in the past and it’s a cold calling answer machine, so now I ignore them. If it’s important they leave a message amd then I will call them back.

I don't answer any number that isn't in my phone contacts, unless I am expecting a call of course and have been caught out a couple of times lol.

I also don't have any volume or vibration on my phone which drives doughnut insane when I miss place my phone and he can't find it (happens about twice a week).

I also have it on do not disturb from midnight until 11am (calls can come through though, not as though I would know lol).

I answer and then wait for yhat dreaded brief moment of silence before the voice kicks in then I generally hang pretty quickly, tell them how I appreciate the call, (yes that's sarcasm and normally only involves 2 words), or I waste their time by engaging in conversation with humour!
