Hey guys

As a lover of watches I was curious to know if anyone here loves them .

I have 3 so far . Citizen eco stiletto, forge and foster rose gold skeleton and a tag heuer 200m professional from 2005

My grail watches are

Rolex daytona 116500ln

I love my watches. I have everything from a Casio F-91W to an AP Royal Oak. I’ve got some frankens and reps too. I’m a space geek so I love the Speedy Moon.

I have only one and it’s a very nice Longines. You have just reminded me that it needs a battery change. Reality is, I probably won’t prioritise this. Between my phone and my fitness tracker, I’m pretty much covered on the time.

Some watch stores will give you unlimited battery replacements for a set fee. Great value so long as you don’t lose the receipt.

Thank you. I’m pretty sure I looked into this and my model was exempt. The batteries are at least 50 quid a pop. Thanks anyway though.

To be fair you can get a good rep off a dealer on RWI for £350 and it’s indistinguishable on the wrist to 99% of the world. I got one to wear when wearing the original would be too risky. No one has ever noticed the difference as far as I’m aware.

Garmin Fennix 6x Pro and a cheap MDFC that needs a battery but was a gift. Happy to pay for performance and features but not status symbols. Amazing how often this thread comes up - it's nearly as common as the "is my dick big enough?" threads and (to my mind at least) has exactly the same mentality behind it.

Somewhat in agreement . Alot of the watch world is all about status now . People wearing richard milles that come with a price Tag of a mansion but look like they came out of a lucky bag. That's not for me, I'm interested jn the craftsmanship behind a watch so I'm not bothered how it makes me appear to others

I suppose it depends on why you want the watch. You could look at it like cars and say why do we need anything more than a cheap run around as cars just get you from A to B. However, some people like watches as jewellery pieces. I know I hate rings so I had a wedding watch instead. Others see them as investment pieces. Another group loves the mechanics of them and build or repair them.

I buy watches for special occasions. Sometimes it's a fancy watch, sometimes not. For example, I buy a bog-standard G-shock every time I visit Cap d'Agde. Each comes back home covered with tiny spots of sunscreen and sand. I like to wear them knowing what had happened when they were on my wrist. My grail watches are Ulisse-Nardin Manara Classico. Haute Horologie and classy erotica combined.

I still say the Casio F-91W is a design classic. I challenge anyone to name a 30+ year old piece of digital technology that is still made in the same way, using the same components as it did at the start. It still operates perfectly and sells millions each year.

I have never really understood the allure of watches. My ideal watch needs to show me the time, date and possibly day. And be comfortable to wear.

My parents bought me a Lorus on graduation. I then had a £10 asda watch that did that. It stopped working after a few years and I then bought a Tissot PR50 Titanium. It was uncomfortable to wear though.

I've now got a Fossil smartwatch. Probably looks naff, but it does what I want a watch to do.

I’ve got a Breitling Colt that I bought in 2012. I wear it every day and I’ve never changed the battery. I’m not particularly precious about scuffs etc but I’d be devastated if I ever lost it.

I've been looking at the tudor chrono (white dial , black sub dials) as an alternative to ever wanting a daytona .

Just as great quality and build as Rolex.

Wears just as comfortable. It pretty much is a Rolex with a different movement.

They’re made in the same factory and have the same parts(mostly).

Apparently , in the Rolex factory there isn’t even a separate area/room/department that is labelled as Tudor!

I’m looking at the chrono as my next purchase. Just can’t decide which one…

Those are all safe money at the very least . Keep hold of them . You never know which celeb might be spotted wearing one sending its value through the roof like when John mayer spoke about the full gold green dial daytona. Went from 16k retail to 70k grey market

More than i can list here.

Do have one that is one of 7 made and another that is one of 6, Most are autos but keep a few quartz for beaters/G&G purposes.

Lost the buzz of collecting for the last few years, but its started to creep back. considering a Marloe Solent- Cardinal Yellow next and still need to sort my ass to get a Christopher Ward Trident GMT white face, after buying and selling a dozen or so other models and always coming back to them...so maybe the forthcoming Anthropocene will finally be the one to do it?

Always been puzzled why people by fake watches? Do they buy fake designer clothes and fake sports cars to complete the look?

Seriously though. It is frowned upon in watch collecting circles and it is actually easy to tell - usually the owner is the easiest ‘tell’ to spot as to whether it is a fake or not

Have a few (watches, no fakes!). Stopped collecting a few years ago so just enjoying what I have now.

Grail would be an ALS 1815 RPC. May get one when K retire and liquidate the collection.

not sure who told you that? They must have been on the make. It shouldn't cost more than a ten pounds.

The only way it could cost that is if its waterproof and you want it re sealing.

Suspect I can’t post the link here because “website is not approved” bullshit - but if you google “Longines Battery Replacement service” you’ll see a range of prices.

The official suggested tariff cost from the watchmaker is £30.

A local indy repair shop is charging £40 inc shipping and post replacement /reseal pressure test.

A well known chain they also cut keys and repaid shoes are charging £50.

So really depends on the level of warranty wanted post change. Any shopping mall watch stand can physically change the battery on the chap. Even DIY would not be that hard. Whether they’ll stand behind a claim for water ingress is another matter.
