The curriculum here is somewhat narrow in any case unlike other countries tjat have for example a baccalauréat or something similar. Tbf most of the above are actually covered at school, just not taken serious or given the kudos they deserve as everyone is chasing the grades on core subjects, important as they might be.

Thinking. We are all told what to think, jut look at RE.

But how many people know how to think? The two classic examples are mind maps (and colour boards) and thinking outside of the box/lateral thinking.

Edward de Bono knew about this. He even said comedians were really cleer, as they need to use and abuse information in order to generate a laugh.

If you don't believe me: crack a joke in another language, that uses word play and local sensitivities.

No. A good portion of my little lots aren't even in the UK at the moment, I feel reasonably safe

I'm much less safe when I go for a mooch around the city centre though - then I see students old and new alike, from post docs to current "beginners".

So far, so unrecognised

Also explain that qualifications don't equal happiness & job satisfaction & that just because you aren't an A grade (by today's standard) student doesn't mean you can't have a well paid job & a great life.

There's far too much emphasis on academia & not enough on creativity and finding out what they're actually really good at.

When I was at school in my last year, we got a day release to a building college & tried lots of different trades. Some of the lads carried it on and now have their own building company.

Let kids know they can probably earn far more with a trade than someone with a degree.

How much are the Cambridge drop outs earning, compared to their former students who did qualify and enter into the expected trades?
