I like it when I stumble across places that have a connection to battle, conflict or wars, then reading about it.

I once sat in a bar/restaurant that had a plaque commemorating the German surrender in the Dodecanese. Being there seemed to make it more fascinating.

A bit clichéd but partly because you can't get away from it round here and we frequently drive past the battlefield and across the actual spot that King Harold is rumoured to have fallen, it's the Battle of Hastings for us

I'm also very interested in 20th Century history. I'm half way through Martin Gilbert's mammoth three-volume History of the 20th Century. It fascinating and highly recommended.
