News reports say that high pork prices in Thailand have seen a splurge in the sales of crocodile meat...has anyone tasted it? What was it like ?

I alomst did. I've heard it's like fishy chicken

I have Crocodile Shoes in my head now. Not too unpleasant

A lighter taste than prok,,a more tender meat, in the height of the boom my local stocked it along with Kangaroo and wold boar in the exotic section,,

I'd love to try it if a Cajun

Chef prepared it.

Depends on where and how it was farmed. And then the cut, and how it's cooked can effect the taste too.

Can be a bit like slightly rubbery chicken at best, but can sometimes taste a bit fishy or gamey.

Snake and monitor lizard are both much nicer to eat, in case you were wondering

For one we eat the croc when usually it's the other way round.. they are merciless buggers..

Yes tried it it's a meaty meat, no real flavour a bit like chicken or tuna steak in texture.

At a hotel I was Manager of back in 1995, there was a Chef who as part of a drive to improve Restaurant turnover, tried Exotic Meats from our local butcher, each one supplied at fortnightly intervals.

We had Crocodile, Buffalo, Alligator, Kangaroo, Boar and a few other meats.

We were even supplied Battered Crickets & Locusts, plus other insects as a trial - these failed spectacularly- but the meats, prepared in various ways were popular. Crocodile was the most popular.

I had it when I was based in Northern Territory, mostly had legs. It was tender and not discimilar to a certain Colonel's chicken. I dont get the fishy reference it was slightly more like pork. In China Tesco and walmart sell it on their fresh fish stalls, still whole.

Tried It in Mexico years ago. Thought it had a similar texture to pork. Enjoyed it.

Not crocodile but alligator. I’ve had it a few times, all different parts / cuts, cooked & served differently, all three dishes were delicious.

Yes. I managed to get my hands on a special box of meat which I used for a bbq.

It included crocodile and ostrich. Both lovely.

I once picked up boxes of exotic meats at a wholesaler that I happened to have a card for because, I don't mind being adventurous with food, and try anything once. These included a box of alligator steaks. Tbey were all palatable, but I felt that they needed to be either slowly cooking with herbs and spices to infuse flavour, or a suitable sauce to give it that extra taste. Those meats at the time though were more expensive than traditional meats like pork, lamb, beef and chicken, but if crocodile meat starts weighing in cheaper than pork, then it's on the menu, and if it's reduced for quck sale because, it's on the sell by date, as nobody wants it, then I'll be clearing the supermarket shelves, and freezing it down. Happy days!

I wonder if the soft underbelly is like belly pork. They should farm them in Australia and export the meat. I would not like them being farmed over here in case one escapes. These buggers can be vicious

They do indeed farm them, mainly for leather but sell the meat as a by product. Can't say I particularly enjoyed the meat at the farm I visited, was stringy, tough and without much flavour. Though that should just be down to a terribly cook.

It sounds as if the most tender and tasty part of this animal is the legs. They could farm these animals for the legs and leather and throw the waste into the croc pit to feed the hungry buggers. And a little known fact. Crocs do not need anti biotics or steroids do it's a healthy organic meet..
