"How can I set folders on my laptop to need a password to open the folder??" Assuming that you are using windows, your best option is to set up auser account for your secret stuff and one for general user. Password the secret one. Windows allows you to switch user account fairly easily.

"If you don't have multiple accounts as it is reliant on that, M says download Folder Lock, which is free. " I use 'File Cabinet'. It will give you and icon in your programs list (or on your desktop if you wish) just the same as a normal program. When you click it it will lock or unlock a folder that you can put hidden away anywhere you like. When it's locked the folder is either hidden or when you click on it it is empty.

"How can I set folders on my laptop to need a password to open the folder??" With multiple users, you could restrict the folder to just your user. But... any other admin user could then take ownership of the folder and view your files. Glad Folder Lock worked for you, that's the best way to do it with a single user. And it can also encrypt your data, so it's doubly-safe from prying eyes. Don't forget your password though! M

"I use TrueCrypt, it's free and does everything you need to keep folders away from prying eyes...or to save the kids from too much of a shock if we both die in a plane crash and they have to sort the house out ! " Even better still get a usb pen...store all files on there and just put in pc or laptop when you need the files x

" Must be a bloody big lap top that has over 2tb of spare storage on board." Who said we had a laptop, or that the storage was on board ? The TrueCrypt reply was relevant whatever type of storage you're using...it's non-device dependent and free.
