The IOC rules for javelin changed years ago. So long ago the record holder is East German. Unlikely to ever be beaten.

"The Archers"? It ousted "Dick Barton: Special Agent" for which I will not forgive it, even though that happened many years before I was born.

Not if he carries on with his current form and he could even leave the Premier League.

"The IOC rules for javelin changed years ago. So long ago the record holder is East German. Unlikely to ever be beaten. "

Ummmmm. The men's javelin WR is held by Jan Zelezny (Czechoslovakia/Czech Rep now) distance of 98.48m set in 1996. His technique is still perfectly legal.

The women's record is from 2008, also a Czech athlete, Barbara Spotakova. Her record is 72.28m.

I'm THAT much of a saddo that I knew both record holders and the distance to the nearest metre without looking it up

Both the men's and women's discus throw records are from the 1980s, athletes from the German Democratic Republic aka East Germany. I'm not sure they'd be legal now, but from a possible doping angle. They're pretty long compared to the typical throws nowadays (men's, 74m; women's 76m in round figures). For reference, Robert Harting threw just over 68m for his gold at the London Olympics. An 8m difference between Harting (an outstanding athlete) and the record is a country mile in discus throw.

Yours,

Mrs KC

The actual javelin itself has changed spec. The men's WR set in 1984 was 104.80m

You mean the Basque chap in the 1950s who spun around like a discus turn? It was never accepted as a WR though. It was unofficial - he was supposed to have thrown 114m. That technique was never a standard technique. And it was bloody dangerous

No WR has been accepted with that technique, however much cool online videos suggest it

Ahhhhhhhh you're talking about when the tipping point of the javelin was moved forward a few cms. Technically the WRs achieved with the old design ceased to exist because the whole competition effectively changed. S'pose his record could be broken if you dig out an antique javelin?!

JavelinFact - the guy who threw 104m with the old design javelin coaches Neeraj Chopra, who won the Tokyo Olympics (86m or so?) Still a LONG way short of Jan Zelezny (legend )

Giacomo Agostini's 15 Motorcycle Gp World Championship titles. His last one was 1975.

At one time it looked like Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez could but not to be. Motorcycle racing really takes it out of you both physically and mentally which makes it very difficult to be competitive for a number of years.

Plus years ago riders used to ride in more than one class, so you could win 2 title's in one season. That was popular in the sixties and seventies, the last person to win 2 titles in a year was Freddie Spencer in 1985, he never won a world championship ever again.
