130% worth?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Dispatches is very interesting tonight. The most senior in business now earn an average of 130% more than low level staff in their organisations.

If you're a boss are you worth 130% more? If you're not, is your boss worth that much more?

I have never earnt more than 25% more than the lowest person in any organisation I have run.

Me thinks I wouldnt like to be my boss tonight - he is worth about 20% if he is lucky - me thinks he has a lot of grovelling to do ...............

Depends if the boss is fetching in a shed load of work. If thats the case, and the company is chock-a-block with work, then yes. On the other hand, if he is only just ticking over, then the boss needs an arse kicking. As in most work related issues of this kind, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys

all fat cat should be held acccountable for their pay and prove that they are worth it. I am a socialist and think tha a comapny should be owned by the workers and that once you have made your million you should step aside and let the next mak make his. who on earth needs 100 million quid? lets all help each other get rich

My boss takes the usual attitude that when everything is going well and that business levels are good, he takes all the credit.

When business levels have failed to materialise, it is everyone else's fault but his, and in turn, bahaves far more recklessly than his usual bullying self!!!

Then, as he did last month, he proudly showed off his new purchase, a top of the range Convertible Mercedes, whilst us mere mortals working under him struggle along on salaries that haven't had any increases in 4 years. Most of the staff are on Nat Minimum Wage.

I started my own business this year and although it's just me at the moment I don't intend remaining 'on the tools' for the rest of my working life. The aim is to employ enough tradesmen to let them do the work while I concentrate on getting the business that keeps them employed.

To my mind providing employment for a workforce and ensuring they have work all year round to sustain their salaries makes me worth whatever me and my accountant decide MY business can realistically pay me, and if any of my employees have a problem with that then they can fuck off and start their own business. Geddit.

I work in a leadership role for a financial institution and my pay is reflective of the pressure and lifestyle I choose because of my job. Is it justifiable? Probably not but i don't decide on how much I pay myself, our business pay increments are generally above inflation too for all.

Quoting myself here - this is from my own businesses, as is not beneficial to the company for me to earn that.

However yes, for working for another company it is true.

Really depends on the size of the company, and what type of company they are.

OK, maybe I should have made it clearer, from my perspective, I'm quite happy with my lot and rarely have any contact with my boss as I work nights and might only see him once a month.

But _iewed from the rest of my colleagues _iewpoint and how he treats them, I see him for what he really is and how he deals with everyone.
