"Even though I’m a big Smiths fan, just purely on the body of work I’d have to go with The Cure " Agree that it's a better overall body of work but the best of the Smiths eclipses the best of the Cure for me. It's a game of opinions of course

"Can’t stand the smiths it’s so depressing music to top yourself by so has to be the Cure" Perhaps the worst arguement for preferring the cure. Listen to Pornography it's much darker than any Smith's album. I used to be a huge Smith's fan but the music or more specifically Morrissey hasn't aged well. The Cure are excellent

"Which one?" Meh... Not a fan of either. Though appreciate both left their mark. If forced to choose... The cure, they were certainly more melodic and listenable. I'm with thta chap above... Echo and the bunnymen

"I like the fact morrissey has his values " Moz is a narcissistic arsehole. Had the misfortune to work with him several times- nobody on the crew had a good thing to say about him. His ego is far bigger than his talent, or the venue he thinks he can fill (usually he can't- couldn't even give spare tickets away at one show). I also had the absolute pleasure of spending quite a lot of time with Smiths bass player Andy Rourke. Lovely bloke, obscenely talented musician who often had me in awe at some of the stuff he'd come out with just noodling on his guitar. After his death, one of the things Morrisey came out with was 'I suppose, at the end of it all, we hope to feel that we were valued. Andy need not worry about that' The sheer hypocrisy from a guy who valued him that much he took him to court to keep the extra Smiths royalties for himself. Andy was far too talented to be a mere 'session musician', Morriesy should consider himself privileged to have been in a band with him

"I liked The Smiths before The Cure but was much more into The Cure at the time. Then I discovered The Cult!" I liked The Cure before The Smiths formed (when they were supporting The Jam at Leicester), and went on to see them more times than The Smiths, but I would have to say I prefer The Smiths. (And some of us remember Southern Death Cult's 'Fatman' being a classic of the early 80s.)

"I've got one, Stone Roses or Oasis Inspiral Carpets" Geez my dumbass had to search it up thinking it was some place that sold carpets. Didn't realise they were an actual band circulating around the Madchester scene during the late 80s to 90s.
