I must admit I’m feeling pretty blue right now. I had some bad family news this afternoon and feel a pretty down.

What do you all do when feeling like this?

I let myself feel it. If you've had bad news you need to process it so allow yourself the time.

Firstly, I don’t log into fab.

Everyone’s different though and that’s certainly not meant as a dig.

I run.

It’s one of the only things that pulls me back out of the darkness.

Be kind to yourself pal.

Cycle.

Time out on my bike, covering around 60-80 miles, is the best therapy for me.

I put on some angry / energetic music and run till I can't anymore.

I hate running, but always feel better after I feel physically broken.

Let your emotions out, then keep yourself occupied, surround yourself with people that care about you, and be open and honest about your feelings with them, I've been there more times than I care to mention.

Cry, then cry some more, it does help. Over the past few days I've got my punchbag bag out and have been giving that a beating while crying my eyes out x

I always find a good workout in the gym while listening to very aggressive music works for me.

It clears my head an let's me think more rationally.

Seems the wrong advice these days but it's served me well for 40+ years but I compartmentalise.

I stick it in part of brain and try to take my mind of it. Usually by distracting myself.

Walking is also therapeutic to me.

Hit the weights hard and get some aggression out and my other option is sometimes I go to the river near me and just sit there with my headphones on whilst watching the world go by. Sometimes its good to be alone with yourself and allow you to process your emotions.

Journalling has been really helpful to me to dump my thoughts and emotions, but write them as a third person so I get a bit of perspective of what is really happening and why I'm feeling those particular emotions.

I also like to do something I enjoy, whether it be a walk, gym or listen to some of my favourite music..

Sorry to hear that OP, i hooe you are ok

I hit the gym and fill my head with music.. I also walk (with music). At some point the emotion comes and I let it out, albeit privately if possible

If the weather is good I go for a long ride on my motorcycle.

If it’s not, then I’ll lose myself in a task in the workshop. Either something complicated that requires real concentration, so I lose all track of where I am, or something mundane and repetitive like sorting stuff that I don’t have to think about at all.

Something intensely physical is good too. Splitting logs, or digging.

Depending how bad it is either keep myself occupied, try and do something creative (usually music) or call crisis team!

Ah sorry to see to see you've had bad news!

When I'm feeling down I sometimes play muaic....loudly.

Have a nice long shower..do my hair..my nails...just take some time to be good to yourself.

Talk to a friend and get a hug.

I hope that the blues and any troubles lift soon x

Gym always helps great way to start the day and just stay as active as possible!

It’s when your sitting home alone those thoughts creep in !

Wish you the best OP chin up mate

OP

In a similar mind set myself so totally get this thread.

I used to dive into work and writing/playing music managed to avoid the thoughts for the best part of 10 years. Unfortunately, businesses went to pot at a particularly rough patch and now I’m Employed and have been for the last 2 years.

I dealt with major stuff a year ago and I should’ve done it much sooner.

Just now, it’s other things and I’m struggling to get the motivation to get into music again.

On a personal note, feel free to fire me a message to vent anything. It’s sometimes easier to speak to someone you don’t actually know.

I’ve just rabbled but, that’s what used to help me. Now, like you. I’m asking the same thing.

A lot has already been said .. get yourself somewhere cosy and have a good cry

But then get yourself somewhere outside and push your body physically. You are a part of a huge universe, see it, open up to it .

This is hard, but you are tiny. A spec, but you are you!

See how insignificant you are but appreciate how important you are !

If I can I go to some quiet place (woodland or by the water) where I wouldn't bump into anyone and listen to the sounds of nature. I also have a music playlist for when I'm down. Also as someone said already - give yourself time.

I'm sorry to hear you're down.

I will usually listen to some uplifting music... Maybe have a dance and sing (which is dreadful).

I'll also get a cuddle from Max... Who gives the best cuddles. Seriously though receiving a hug if you can really helps.

Hope you feel brighter xx

I read this and thought, yeah Fab is probably not the best place to be when feeling like this. So sorry for “posting and running” it must seem like an attention grab but it wasn’t meant to be. I took myself off to my BPD support group and they were great. I’m still worried, scared and upset but have some focus now. Been a long night.

Big thanks to all the people who don’t know me who reached out directly and some even invited me to call them an talk. Bless you all x

Would agree this. There must be more appropriate sites than Fab.

Sites with friends and family on maybe??

I hope you're doing OK.

In answer to the original question it depends on how the emotion is impacting.

If I'm angry I will do something physical: walk, swim, dance, fuck, anything to take off the burn.

If I'm sorrowful I will cry, sleep, talk, reach out to friends.

If I'm isolated I will immerse myself in nature and remind myself how insignificant my troubles are - walk through the woods, paddle along the shore, lie under the stars.

If I'm scared I will listen to loud music, distract myself with a film or a book, remind myself of everything I've survived so far.

Music is great!

Go out into nature for a walk, woods or seaside, appreciate the small the small things, bird’s singing, sound of a river etc
