Out of the blue…

I got a message out of the blue yesterday.

Just someone reacting to a comment I’d made on a thread.

Lead into a brief, but very pleasant back and forth for a few minutes.

Made my day. It’s nice to be nice.

That is all.

Was it from admin saying your site supporter pass is about to run out in 5 days?

We sometimes have a brief interaction like that. No agenda other than to chat, it's refreshing

That’s normally the only message I get.

That’s great OP I’m sure they will be pleased to know they had such a positive impact on you.

It’s not unheard of for people to message each other via the forums which is why it’s a good place to hang out if you’re just looking for a bit of sociable interaction

I receive the odd message off the back of a forum thread, it can be a good way of making connections, and after all, it's good to talk.

When something comes as a surprise, why is it out of the blue?

I thought it was Debbie Gibson's debut album.

It's better than the chat rooms for me, as the whole conversation is easier to track.

Plus you end up talking about random subjects.

"When something comes as a surprise, why is it out of the blue?"

I thought it was maybe something to do with aerial warfare, but I had a look and found this:

“The phrase out of the blue means without warning, completely unexpectedly.

It is from a bolt out of, also from, the blue, denoting a sudden and unexpected event, a complete surprise, with reference to the unlikelihood of a thunderbolt coming from a clear blue sky. For example, The Standard (London) of 26th August 1863 had:

Murder now rises up before us, gaunt and unmitigated, in a circle where all seemed lovely, virtuous, and peaceful. This is verily “a bolt out of the blue”—the lightning flash in a sunny sky.”

It’s a phrase that goes back at least to the French Revolution.
