A chat to see if they like you.

little house on the praire

It can be a small group of people all there for the same thing and they go through things with you and if they are impressed they call you back for a proper one

This is the only inter_iew for the job as I work in the same office as the manager that I have applied for the job... So I asked her if its a couple of inter_iews and she said no this is the inter_iew

If you work there already then I think they just like to have an informal chat to see how you would fit into the role. They know your competencies etc.

Informal meaning as you work there already I'd imagine, so just for a chat, however I'd treat it as formal as you don't know what to expect.

But hey good luck!

I had my "informal inter_iew" out of works hours, in a pub with three senior managers. It went quite well.

I didn't hear from them for nearly a month, so I phoned the MD to see if there was any interest.

Happily, he offered me the job over the phone.

Questions you are likely to be asked in an internal inter_iew (informal or not - you'll still be asked questions) are:

Why did you apply for this role?

What do you see as your strengths?

Which parts of the (new) role do you think will be the biggest stretch for you?

How does this new role fit into your career aspirations?

Good luck!

I'd never ask any of those.... the answers would be too subjective, as it's all about what a person thinks.

If it is a fair objective inter_iew it will be competency based.

Checkout the job spec/role profile and have some clear, sound examples of things you have done which match the competencies.... especially if they are advertising externally.

And I wouldn't say a competency based inter_iew was particularly informal (nor particularly objective) but differing _iews will help OP prepare.

Angus & Findhorn

I used to use a capabilities/compentency diary and had it broken into the inter_iew framework

situation

objective

actions

results

aftermath

I would write up examples of great customer focus, teamwork etc etc on a weekly basis, so when i did have an inter_iew I had a catalogue to pick from.

copied from another thread I wrote it on..
