Guilty for saying this. I’m not speaking for everyone who says it but for me I say incase the lady in question replies that it wouldn’t be an issue. If they don’t reply to it you know there’s no chance. If she does then you find out the distance isn’t an issue

I think most people are looking for those that are more local to them. But being close to one another doesn't mean you will get along. Might be one doesn't fit what the other person is searching for but may find that with someone that say.. lives hours away. Distance shouldn't really be an issue unless you can travel of course. I once drove 3 hours to meet a lady I liked once.. would I do it again? Depends lol

Works the other way too, as I've been told I live "too far away".

I quite enjoy a trip as it's an excuse to get the motorbike out, so a reasonable distance (a few hours) isn't a problem for me.

People just make assumptions (or maybe excuses)

I tell people they are too far away because it's nicer than saying I'm not attracted to them or just don't want to meet them.

I started off on here with a 15 mile limit. So it was my standard response but the pushback was ridiculous. "I could drive and pick you up and then drop you back". Suggestions of hotels all the time. It just wasn't accepted. So now I say not interested.

OK well I believe some men (or some people in general) would say it if they found someone attractive and would like to meet them, but they live miles away...

Now, why would they bother even messaging and saying that if they live so far away?...they probably hope that you might want to "meet them in the middle" or that you maybe would travel to see them.

I guess it's the responses I receive after as they clearly would travel to me anyway so defeats their first message

I’m not exactly sure why people would message saying that. I think it could almost be a preventative to getting rejected after saying a compliment to someone. Similar to what someone else said further up…

If only you were closer you’d be begging to bounce around on my dick.

Its a nonsense line as if you want to meet someone distance is only one of the conditions to be assessed. Compatibility and desire are far more important, which means getting to know someone first.

On the whole men are just tarts and would **** anyone but they can only travel so far on their free bus pass or their mothers only let them out for a few hours before they need to get home for their dinner.

If say that was me back in my youth and it's probably the same for most people, male and female. Now at this stage in my life I need more than just a ****.

I have said it to people I have chatted to for quite some time but the distance just makes it too difficult for both of us.

Aha thank you. It's their opening line so you'd think they'd maybe find out first if it was to be difficult. Saying it to me in their first message just annoys me personally

"I think distance is perfectly reasonable reason for not meeting. We may have the best intentions but life gets in the way.

That wasn't my point. After my sarcastic response which goes over their head they are more than happy to travel. Just why say it, was what I was asking

Ahh I see, I do think there are plenty who use distance as an excuse.

I don't drive myself but it's amazing how many men expect me to jump on a train or even offer to pay for a taxi at a considerable distance. Generous but ridiculous "

Think what men need to understand is most wemon want closer distance so regular meets could be arranged few don't want a one night stand and dropped a lot of men show too much desperation and it's a proper turn off x

Looking randomly at fab, tripped across a profile that’s caught my eye & boom.

Absolutely stunning!

We are 200 miles apart, but I’m thinking if I can’t do anything else, at least I can make her smile on the other side of the internet with a compliment.

She may have had the shittest day ever & you may make her day by just being nice.

Well that’s my thoughts anyway

BTW & not an afterthought. You look very nice

Without trawling through the whole thread - yes, there are a few reasons to say this.

1) You want to compliment her and say you’d like to meet without being too “I’ll be on your doorstep in 5 mins babe!” And if it really is a long way it’s s nice way of saying “I really want to but sadly, being realistic, it’s totally impractical”.

2) It can test the waters if she says she’d only meet men in the nearest two streets. If she responds with, “Actually distance shouldn’t be a problem”, that let’d tell me she’s on the keen side.

3) It lets her know I don’t have a private jet or helicopter so if she expects that it’s better she knows straight away!

4) It can be polite code for saying “You’re great but not quite great enough that I want to meet you but I don’t want to say that for not wanting to be rude”.

5) It can also be a way of saying “You’re amazing and I’d absolutely love to meet you but my life and work is genuinely too complicated and will unquestionably prevent me from being able to visit you.

6) It can also be code for, “I’m dying to meet you but my girlfriend threatens me with biting off my cock if she knows I’ve even glanced at another woman!

Take your pick!

Any excuse for wank fodder, if they think they can butter you up for give it.

They are on the block list of everyone more local, so they have had to spread their wings.

They hope that a 300+ miles round trip is enticing enough for you, for a few seconds of their tugging or thrusting.

Etc
