I thought I start a 'The best of...' series of places people have stayed at, dinned in, visited etc and liked. This one is about nice Hotels with comfortable rooms, a great bar for evening relaxation, lovely restaurant and food, spa facilities, scrumptious and varied breakfast (there is a similar thread for smaller B&Bs). If you know of one, just reply and add to the list below with the name and area please. I know everyone likes different things but could be a good starting point for anyone looking for one. Thanks.

There’s a beautiful Art Deco hotel in Doncaster that I’ve stayed at! Called The Earl of Doncaster!

Wirral

My favourite hotel is Hotel 41 in London. One of the suites has a glass roof directly over the master bed, and I spent a lot of time there a few years back.

I've had a lot of fantastic times under that glass roof!

Never dined there but you're on Buckingham Palace Road so plenty of choice nearby anyway. The breakfast delivered to the room was beautiful though.

Staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. It feels like an old fashioned gentlemen's club, I loved it!

I have been lucky to have stayed there just the once for my birthday. Beautiful but quite pricey of course so I am glad I did not have to pick up the check for this one

Any recommendations? Preferably somewhere with a swimming pool, good spa facilities and excellent dinner/breakfast. I like my comforts. Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, North Wales, Lakes, Midlands but anywhere else good too . A London one will be great too as planning a visit to see some old friends in near future. Thanks.

In the west.

Edinburgh used to have lots of very good hotels but in my opinion that have stopped making an effort because they have a ready made market.

The Fonab Castle. I haven't been to this hotel, yet, but it does look very nice. It's just off the A9 heading up to Inverness.

Visiting Scotland

House House just outside Edinburgh was lovely. Quaint old building, lovely food and the bar is down in the old cellars. Was pre-covid, but definitely somewhere I’d go back to.

The Cranleigh Boutique in Bowness

We stayed in the hideout for our honeymoon. Huge spa bath infront of a cinema screen with a complimentary bar mindblowing.

Applegarth villa in Windermere is stunning also.

Now that we are all started booking a few more holidays, I thought I bring this back on for people to post about their favourite stay or place they know as might help others when looking to book.

I am resurrecting this for any new suggestions. I am booking a treat for a friend that has a birthday soon and looking for somewhere nice but reasonable for a couple of nights either lake district or north yorks and preferably with great views and possibly a pool too. Any suggestion for this or other ones in general, very welcome. I will also consider air b n b if anything great that someone could suggest that perhaps they know or have stayed at.

I was hoping someone might have a suggestion. If so, will be very much appreciated.

Grange Farm Park, near Alford, Lincolnshire.

Winner of 4 In A Bed on Channel 4.

We stayed in a twin double apartment that was beautifully appointed with a private 4 person hot tub. They have lodges and pods and all sorts of other accommodations too. There is a restaurant that serves excellent bistro food and cocktails to get you going. The staff are top notch. Highly recommended.
