The best of series - Little gem of a place to visit

I thought I start a 'The best of...' series of places people have stayed at, dinned in, visited etc and liked. This one is about lovely towns, villages to visit in UK as nothing better than spending a day exploring a lovely little place, looking around all the interesting small, antique and bric and brac shops, have a gorgeous meal or a scrumptious afternoon tea. A great way to have an enjoyable and relaxing day. If you know of one, just reply and add to the list below with the name and area please. I know everyone likes different things but could be a good starting point for anyone looking for one. Thanks.

Thanks. That's building up the list nicely and all have things to do in small villages and towns nearby as always like to browse some bric and brac and have several stops for cake too

In the west.

The Duck Bay coffee shop or restaurant on Loch Lomond. On a clear day the views are amazing and they are pretty good on dark damp days as well.

My boudoir - S Wales

Crickhowell is a lovely picturesque little place OP with those kind of shops and tea rooms. It’s close to Pen Y Fan and the Brecon waterfalls to if you like trekking. And close to Abergavenny which has a great market.

There’s a hotel there called The Bear which is really old but super cosy! Has a traditional pub underneath.

Thank you very much. The area is certainly worth exploring and the hotel does look interesting, although their classification of the rooms made me laugh- cosy room, good room, better room, very best room ..

I hadn’t noticed this. The bath in the “very best room” looks very inviting!

New Lanark is a beautiful place to visit. It has something for most people. The woodland walks are great and the history of the place is amazing.

Thank you, yes have done it and all the other villages near by. Very nice, except a couple of very touristy places not to my liking. Very pleasant couple of days in the area though. Perhaps time to revisit.

I think Highland Perthshire is a beautiful place. And the drive up the west coast to Skye, going through Glencoe is ab so lute ly stunning.

Torridon is next on my list.

While Skegness isn't exactly hidden, The Village Church Farm is. It's in Skegness but tucked away and we love it there - especially August bh weekend, when we spend the whole weekend there entertaining.

The island of Unst in the Shetland Isles. The most northerly inhabited island in the United Kingdom. On the beach at Norwick there is a place where you can stand straddling two different tectonic plates of the earth's crust. Your left foot on the North American continental plate, your right foot on a section of the deep ocean crust that was thrust to the surface millions of years ago by colossal geological forces. Visibly totally different types of geology, hundreds of millions of years different in age, meeting at a line between your feet. It's kind of awesome for people who get awed by stuff like this!

Unst is also the home of Saxavord UK Space Port! This year the first rocket launches from the UK into space are expected to start here, delivering small satellites into orbit. I guess it won't be quite as spectacular as Cape Canaveral, but then you can't watch a launch at Canaveral, then see the Northern Lights at nighttime.

Actually yes! "Victoria's Vintage Tea Rooms" at Haroldswick, about two miles away. And halfway between the two places is Saxa Vord, home of the UK Space Port and also the Shetland Reel distillery...
