So sad!! A great actor and an icon. Growing up, I rarely saw a non white actor have any decent role in film or TV so to see him have such presence and be so cool aswell as confident and assertive was a massive inspiration to me.

Knew it! As soon as I saw the thread, sighhh...

Loved "In the heat of the night". I know Bill Crosby's fallen out of favour, but there's a comedy he and Poitier stared in, I remember being hilarious..

I'll make an effort to seek them both out at some point.
