"When Did You Stop Loving Me"

Marvin Gaye on the "Here My Dear" album.

It's written from the heart of a man that simply loved his wife and didn't want a divorce. ALL the royalties from that album were paid to his wife (Berry Gordy's daughter)and at the end he hated her.

It brought tears to my eyes when i heard it on release in 1978 and still does every time i play it.

Actually, I've just listened to them back to back, and I'm not so sure that Keane's version is better. Keane is more anthemic, where Lily is more acapella and simple.

Maybe I like them both equally.

"Sarah McClaclan

Angel

Love this "

I think knowing this makes it even more poignant...

McLachlan wrote this about a drug-addict's struggles with the world. The "angel" symbolizes the drugs the addict gives in to repeatedly.

As McLachlan explained on VH1 Storytellers, this song is about the Smashing Pumpkins touring keyboard player Jonathan Melvoin, who overdosed on heroin and died in 1996. McLachlan didn't know him and was never a heavy drug user herself, but when she read about his death in Rolling Stone, she felt a connection, as she had just come off two years on the road where "there's nothing constant but everything becomes the same."

"Time To Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman just turns me into a blubbering wreck.

Oh I can't listen to this without doing the same "

Yup, this played at my Uncles funeral beautiful song

Never cried to a song before, but you can just feel the pain in his voice.

It was only a smile but my heart, it went wild

And I wasn't expecting that

Just a delicate kiss, anyone could've missed

I wasn't expecting that

Did I misread the sign? Your hand slipped into mine

I wasn't expecting that

You spent the night in my bed, you woke up and you said

"I wasn't expecting that"

I thought love wasn't meant to last

I thought you were just passing through

If I ever get the nerve to ask

What did I get right to deserve somebody like you?

I wasn't expecting that

It was only a word, it was almost mis-heard

'Cause I wasn't expecting that

But it came without fear, a month turned into a year

I wasn't expecting that

I thought love wasn't meant to last

Honey, I thought you were just passing through

If I ever get the nerve to ask

What did I get right to deserve somebody like you?

I wasn't expecting that

Isn't it strange how a life can be changed

In the flicker of the sweetest smile

We were married in spring

You know I wouldn't change a thing

Without an innocent kiss, what a life I'd have missed

If you'd not took a chance on a little romance

When I wasn't expecting that

Time doesn't take long, three kids up and gone

I wasn't expecting that

And when the nurses they came, said, "It's come back again"

I wasn't expecting that

Then you closed your eyes, you took my heart by surprise

I wasn't expecting that

Love this band and it's such a raw and emotive song.

When you get to my age, and outside of the age range of half the world and their dog, the song that my mum and dad used to dance to comes to mind.

Donny and Marie Osmond... I'm leaving it all up to you!

I'll just provide the accommodation!

The classics are great, but I am loving some of the more obscure songs.

It is all about the lyrics for me.

Here are my offerings.

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize

The Earlies - Wayward Song

Bobby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart

Dennis Wilson - Thoughts Of You
