This week I've got a surplus of kiwi fruit...they are not ripe. I've had them in a paper bag with an apple (no bananas in the box) but they don't seem to be ripening. Any ideas?

Peel them before eating

Don't laugh, I once worked with a woman who didn't know that

. When they're ripe I eat them like a boiled egg, take the top off and eat with a spoon.

This is genuinely why I haven't gone down this route.

Can you make a pickle with them?

Probably but I wouldn't. I will have to Google and see if I can cook them.

I think you over estimate my culinary abilities . I reckon jam would be a good use of them. I think I'll keep them and simmer in orange juice then eat with Greek yogurt.

If you have a slow cooker you can make jam. Also many bread makers have a jam setting

Now you're underestimating my laziness . My bread maker does have a jam setting. I think I might actually have a look at that because Mr N likes jam.

Making jam is a bit of an effort but it does feel good when the jar lids click shut

Put them in the airing cupboard or on a radiator..that should do the trick..it worked with some unripened mango's I bought..

That's not going to solve the problem of ripening them though.

I shall either make jam or just cook them and serve with yogurt

Well, she survived to tell the tale so, I guess, very little other than a mouthful of horrible furryness

Chop them up with tomatoes, onions, peppers and herbs and call it salsa.

Most of the nutritional value is in the skin. Chop on it like an apple

I think the same, sorry . Ethylene is the plant hormone used to ripen them naturally. I find bananas produce the biggest amount of ethylene by a long shot. A warm room temperature should be sufficient, when bagged.

You don’t have to! I love the skin and that’s where the bulk of the nutrients are

I eat it whole
