"I simply hope that my story will motivate and inspire others. I had the grim reaper whispering in my ears, and he told me to get my shit together. I genuinely think that there’s no situation that a person can be in, that can’t be improved if you put your mind to it. I’m more than happy to motivate and share my take with others if they wish. "I'm making changes to try and get healthy I'm never going to be a skinny mini but I can get healthy. My car died in November so I walk to work now it's not far but apathy and a steep hill came into play so I walk now. Sod the gym too many disgusted glances from the gym bunnies for my liking. I cracked a couple of ribs last year a trip to A&E flagged a couple of serious health issues, I dare not tell my wife it'll scare her. So all healthy food now I'll try to get my mind healthy (I'm a catastrophic thinker) and i witnessed a very traumatic incident a few years ago which never leaves my head, hopefully my body will follow the healthy mantra. Sorry for unloading once I started I carried on. Any way yep I'm up for getting healthy! " That sounds like you've a lot to cope with anyway Hopefully getting healthier might improve other parts of your life

Not my 1st rodeo I'd not thought of callipers as I've never thought about the fat % until I go the scales " I tried the fancy scales once and found they were too inconsistent for me. The callipers never lie, and they’re so cheap I’ve got everything ready. I use a spreadsheet for tracking my daily weight and calories. The old adage “what’s not tracked can’t be managed” is something I follow I’ve got a few premade meal ideas set up. Nothing crazy, just simple go to meals I know I enjoy and fit well within my diet. A few breakfast ideas, a couple lunches ones My goal is to keep protein high and let fats/carbs fall where every they may. In the past I’ve found IF to help me manage hunger in the evenings, but it’s also left me with less energy at work. This time I’ll be trying to bias calories towards the end of the day, not fasting in the morning, just limiting my breakfast/lunch portions in favour of a bigger dinner

"I started my weight loss journey straight after Christmas, didn’t want to wait till the new year. I’m currently 3lbs down. I will say however that for me to lose weight I have to reduce my calorie intake down to 1200 calories, I have not found another way that works and I have tried a few. I am having a conundrum though, I don’t always crave breakfast and am told it’s really important to eat. Is this true? Can I live on 2 larger meals a day if I find that more satisfying or am I setting myself up for failure? Lily " No current evidence suggest skipping any meal is harmful As long as you feel ok, keep at it. Lots of people practise intermittently fasting daily, where they skip breakfast and lunch. Well done in the 3lbs! Nice little head start on 2022

On YT there and plenty of people that eat fewer meals as part of weight loss. I've always heard that you must have breakfast but I truly cannot face it. If you Google Micheal Moseley he talks about limiting eating to between 10 am and 8pm. A shorter time frame for 3 meals?

However it's supposed to kick start your metabolism, not sure how that works really, but I guess if you have it early your have more of the day where you are burning more calories, not a scientists so have no idea really, but there is that other saying breakfast like a king and supper like a pauper suggesting your should have the biggest meals earlier in the day and go lighter throughout the day, but still can't see how it actuLly works just means you will not have a full digestive system at night so should weigh lighter in the morning.... "I'm in for this! As of this morning I've lost ten stones, three pounds from my heaviest weight. I need to find the motivation to continue losing weight - for me that means no more purchasing unhealthy food because I know I'll eat it all when sad, IF because my pcos seems to be less of a bugger when I do it and minimizing carbs due to bloating and general feelings of crapness. I've already compiled a shopping list with easily prepared meals that are low calorie and I'm going to have to stop purchasing sugary festive drinks. For me it's also about addressing the root of why I overeat so I'm going to add in meditation. Hoping to lose about two stones by April. Maybe more. " Love this.

"Careful with the 800-1200 calorie limit! That's quite restricting for your age and could hinder your progress too. You only need a 500 calorie deficit minimum to lose weight so even 1500 a day would be great for you!" Yeah it’s something I keep an eye on. Basically I meal prep three meals somewhere along those lines and then if I feel a little groggy or peckish I can continue to snack on fruit, veggie snacks or a Starbucks lol

"If anyone wants to reach out and send me meal ideas for keto then please do" Pinterest is loaded with Keto recipes. Think of it in its simplest terms. Eat decent proteins like eggs, good meat or fish. And lots of non-starchy vegetables, green in other words. The old 'meat and two veg' works as long as your vegetables are not starchy. Another way to look at it is to look up the Glycemic Index (GI) of foods. High GI means high sugar, even natural ones.

"It all comes down to calories in calories out. " I disagree wholeheartedly. A lot of 'fat' can be water retention. Medications can pile on weight. An under active thyroid can pile on weight. PCOS can pile on weight. As I said earlier, the NHS count calories because you're a lazy pie muncher mantra is long past useless.

Lily " I lost weight by not eating breakfast (one of the things I did). Doesn't do any harm.

"It all comes down to calories in calories out. I disagree wholeheartedly. A lot of 'fat' can be water retention. Medications can pile on weight. An under active thyroid can pile on weight. PCOS can pile on weight. As I said earlier, the NHS count calories because you're a lazy pie muncher mantra is long past useless." "Not sure how much I've lost cause I don't really weigh. I know I've lost inches cause I can comfortably fit in am outfit that I couldn't before Xmas. No I don't count calories either. A very low carb diet is working for me." Low carbs is a useful way for many to lose weight as it takes away many of the things people snack on and bulk out meals with extra calories Well done in your loss

"This is meant to be a support group not a bash other peoples methods group" True, though if someone has lost weight counting calories that's great. Someone stating that it's all about calories, with no weight loss to back up that theory, is not being helpful. That's the whole point of this, the calories mantra does not work for everyone

I consistently lose and gain weight with calories in vs calories out No need to call someone else’s weight loss journey or experience “useless” It’s meant to be a support group. Very rude

"sorry KM not been posting... but hopefully back! I lost 1.5lbs this week at weigh in, but I do think im finding it so much harder as I get nearer my target, not to stay on plan but it's just less weight to come off I suppose... but it's fine it's still happening and I have managed to get back into my early morning walks which for me really help, in body and mind! Rabbit x " The last part is the hardest. Unless you forget the wight goal number and go on how you feel and how your clothes fit

"I have lost 4kg since Christmas, I have been following slimming world. I don't ever go hungry but have to cut out everything I love. Alcohol is the hardest thing to stop. Looks like a quiet few months. " That's great that SW is working for you. Alcohol is really not a life essential though. Do you feel better without? Or is it too early to tell?

"***Really Helpful Tip*** Keep an emergency 2 litre bottle of water on you. Whenever you get that craving just down 8 gulps of water. Im telling you it saves me more then most of the time. " Very true this. Often what we think is hunger is actually thirst

"This is am interesting thread, can I ask does everyone gauge weight lost by the number it says on the scales? And this alone? " definitely gauge 'weight loss' by weighing on the scales, but there are so many other signs of a healthier body, loss of inches, reduced clothes size, better hair and skin and just feeling physically and emotionally improved. it's a whole body journey for me. "12.5 pounds down now! Almost a stone. Going to look banging for the Manchester social " This is my interim target date.. what's annoying me is since a week before Christmas I'd lost 27lb. Now put back on 15lb in 2 weeks ( not 100% sure thats all just bad choices though as medically sometimes I have weight gains for what seems like no reason)

"That said the point I'm trying to make for anyone that's on the journey of losing weight and its seems to have stopped and your still "being good" then don't be disheartened as I would imagine you are actually still cutting body fat and it might take a more technical set of scales to calculate this for you. It's an interesting journey but one that can take over you if you let it. Always good to chat to people to get motivations and keep pushing. " I have Innotech scales and forget to look at the other figures

"I'm addicted to Cherry Lucozade I've lost 1.8kg by following a low Fodmap diet. That's from necessity not choice, and it's been difficult adjusting. I started drinking the Lucozade when I first got ill as I was totally exhausted from constant stomach problems and pain. I don't eat much actual food, as I'm still trying to work out my menu and must avoid foods. Wheat and onions are a big trigger so most of my old diet is gone. Last night I tried a wrap with ham and mayonnaise (I ran out of lettuce) and I seem ok so far. " Is it full sugar Lucozade?

"I've managed to go from nearly 19 stone 3 years ago to 12 now. It's been a journey. Diets don't work (imo). I looked at portion sizes. Also cutting down on crisps and mars bars. I used to think a packed lunch needed these...... Also being full and not clearing your plate. Knowing what's in your food is important. Also things like understanding I have to run 5k to burn off a mars bar..... Crikey. I took up running. Being clear I started with no experience of it. I needed to cycle at the gym first before the treadmill. Then onto roads with a local club. All about the distance not speed. Now I compete in local championships. If anyone wants support or advice on breaking in running to help please feel free to hit me up. It's obviously not for everyone and I wish you all the best in your journeys." That is very motivating, thank you KM

"I'm 2.5 stone heavier than I was before lock down. I don't want to lose that much but want a stone off. Calories in/out. Not eating crap and weight training worked for me so going to go along those lines. I used to go to the gym 6 days a week. I don't go now. I also used to do 7 cleaning jobs along side my main job. I don't do that many now.The biggest thing I want to change is the amount of crap I eat and I used to spring out of bed where now I could literally lie in bed all morning. I have a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit after every meal which is just habit. My motivation is feeling better and to fit into some of my clothes. Wish me luck R" Wishing you much luck, at least you know you have some habits to break and hopefully that can be managed KM
