Vikings vs. The Last Kingdom

Just finished TLK last night. I enjoyed it for the most part but it did start getting repetitive towards the end. Also Uhtred's increasingly fake accent was getting on my nerves. And it was weird how nobody seemed to age.

Anyway... Is Vikings any better?

I enjoyed vikings but I had a beard at the time. Maybe it’s a precursor for one’s enjoyment and you should consider growing one.

Alexander Dreymon is so fucking pretty he could come on scene reading a pizza menu and I'd still watch him

I loved The Vikings. Haven't watched Last Kingdom, so can't compare. But Vikings was voted most historically accurate fictional series. Very gory and explicit. I especially loved the Blood Eagle episode.

Prime, but not all seasons are free, which is really annoying

I loved watching both. Lots of action and lots of easy on the eye actors/actresses.

It's a bit all over the place but he's German and I adore the German accent

Having a dodgy accent fits the narrative of the books. He is a Northumbrian who was raised by a bunch of Danes. Therefore I would guess his accent maybe a little Germanic

It's not so much the accent itself, it's that the actor emphasises all the wrong words and it sounds all kinds of weird, just not how anyone would normally talk. And it also got stronger with time even though he's living among Saxons...

I've heard Alexander Dreymon's real accent and it would actually still really suit a Northumbrian/Dane. Don't know why they made the executive decision to go with that.

But his real accent sounds all Americanised (not that I've been obsessively watching interviews or anything)

I don't think an American accent would suit the context.

I've not really noticed anything dodgy about his accent in the show and I normally have a very low tolerance for these things.

Just proves... you can get away with anything if you're pretty enough

Destiny issss all!

*take off your top Uhtred*

His accent is a bit hit or miss, but I still love the show and the Bernard Cornwell book series. Season 5 should be out soon and there's supposed to be a movie made this year concluding the story.

Have only watched Vikings.

Would pump approximately 80% of the cast so on that basis alone, worth a watch.

I found Vikings was much better. I struggled to get into TLK as it just seemed like a rather poor attempt to compete with its Scandinavian cousin.

Also, there's a rather stunning Viking at the top of Hot Pics currently... Take that as a sign from Odin.

I liked both; however Viking’s was packed with more action & suspension.

I’ve watched both.

Vikings is very good, with a great cast. A great action packed show.

The last kingdom seemed more of a storyline on the development of Uhtred.

Vikings had lots of main characters with many different storylines to follow.

I watched The last kingdom first and loved it. Yes, Uhtred was a treat to watch and I did have some lovely dreams at the time to do with Vikings

Vikings was a bit too brutal for me but I'm a total softie so that's probably why.

Both are equally good though x

Vikings tend to stick as close as possible to the Saga’s.

Whereas TLK is more fictional based, but more ahead in the future from where Vikings is set. (I read it somewhere it’s set 50 years into the future)

I enjoyed both but would probably give the nod to Vikings because it was filmed in Ireland and the Kattegat scenes were shot at Lough Tay which is owned by the Guinness family and actually looks like a pint of Guinness when overlooking it.
