January Fitness Challenge - *°*Day 1 *°*

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Morning all.. Did you read that in the Big Brother voice

Right January fitness challenge is all about planking!

As it is day one of the challenge, please take a side view and front photo of yourself... You'll do another one in 30 days for a comparison, so keep it safe somewhere

Here is Day 1 activity - I'll send a photo of the pose to everyone who signed up (i have 45 names!)

******

Day 1: Forearm Plank (Low Plank)

? Place elbows directly beneath your shoulders, legs extended.

? Press through your heels so calves are lengthened.

? Draw your navel toward your spine and engage your glutes.

? Hold for 45 seconds; do three sets.

******

The standard activity is as described - but it is up to you how many seconds and reps you do.. Dial it down or punch it up depending on your ability

Gonna be a few poor souls with hangovers today... But think of the sense of achievement at the end of it

May the force be with you!

Midnight

So you hold it for 45 seconds take a little break and then go again do it 3 times - “sets”

I gather you've got to hold the plank position for 45 seconds, 3 times.

So hold for 45 seconds then rest, then do it again (and rest), then do it again.

Weighed myself this morning and went for a 5k walk/run.

I’ve been having some issues with my Achilles, which I think might be hamstring related. So my goal for Q1 is to sustain a very basic fitness and mobility plan.

I’ve cancelled my gym membership, so I’ll get getting my work outs through running, kettlebells and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Hey there is no set rule, just do whatever you can if it’s 5 seconds or 10 just challenge yourself an extra second or two each day and see what happens

I’ve found it’s actually quicker than you’d think to increase the time. It’s hard at first and needs repetition every day but so worth it!

On a slightly serious note..be careful not to let your hips sag as it puts a lot of pressure on your lower back..

I can't message the pose as there are more than 50 people - so I've set up a telegram group for those who have it - it will help me tremendously if you can join the group (ping me for a link)

The telegram thing works, or you could just do what you’ve done today and make a post on the forum explaining what the exercise is. That way anyone that would like to participate can do so and you can always post a link to a picture of the pose you want us to do. Not sure if this would be easier?

"I'm glad you are all enjoying it

It's turned into a nightmare from an admin perspective as so many people want to do it lol

I can't message the pose as there are more than 50 people - so I've set up a telegram group for those who have it - it will help me tremendously if you can join the group (ping me for a link)

For those who don't have telegram I'll send via Fab messager, but realistically 30 people is gonna be my limit!

"

You're doing a great job managing all of this Midnight, thank you. Maybe a telegram group and a daily thread is enough? Are you allowed to link to the image rather than messaging it?

Those who want to take part maybe need to be proactive so as to make this our good habit, and lighten the load on Midnight?

The telegram thing works, or you could just do what you’ve done today and make a post on the forum explaining what the exercise is. That way anyone that would like to participate can do so and you can always post a link to a picture of the pose you want us to do. Not sure if this would be easier?"

I debated posting a picture on my account but it would get taken down because it didn't have me in it and getting my hand into a screen shot is even more complex for me on my phone

Dude, I've kept my fitness for many years, I'm a tad fat just now but I was on the spinning g class this morning 1st Jan 22.

Fitness fads probably do more bad than good if you're not going to keep going.

It’s about getting into good habits, and doesn’t have to be a fad.

I agree but so many try , fail, a year on the same and get to the point of 'why bother' if anyone's serious, don't follow the pack, be yourself

The "support" group is definitely gonna help get me through this. The banter alone is worth joining it!
