Yes im detoxing this month i usually do it every jan,

Zero alcohol, takeaway food, no eating out & no meat. just really really strict clean diet routine.

The above statement is a total lie. January's grim enough i need those comforts!

I genuinely do detox for orthodox lent which is march this year, i cut alcohol, meat, and intermittent fast. Its a Cypriot greek tradition

I try not to give up things I enjoy. I prefer to reduce them or save for treats. I always start the year on a bit of a post Christmas diet but not going crazy. Life is too short to deny myself of things I enjoy.

I bet dry January wasn't invented by someone born in January. It has always been awkward having a January birthday as people tend to be a bit jaded and burnt out after christmas and then they get hooked into things like dry January and diets etc and suddenly nobody wants to celibrate with you at all.

Behave. Me not drinking my weekly Prosecco from Asda is not going to harm anyone.

Stop looking to bring aggro where there is none.

Jeez, happy new year!

"Just what the struggling hospitality trade needs! "

One of the problems this country faces is the hospitality industry is propped up by a widespread culture of excessive drinking.

If everybody drank responsibily the industry would collapse.

Alcohol is more harmful than heroin or crack when the overall dangers to the individual and society are considered, according to a study by David Nutt, former government chief drugs adviser.

When you take that into account, I can't blame people for wanting to take a break.

I eat out on a weekly basis, I do my part to support hospitality.

I won’t let some stranger on a swingers site try to make me feel guilty for trying to be healthier for myself and my children

On a mooch

I only drink when out out and with plans for two parties in January, I’ll give this a miss. My last drink was 12th December so I would have done my month by the first party date.

I don't drink but don't quite understand why you would give it up for a month just to go back to normal come February. Wouldn't it be better to just drink in moderation at all times of the year?

It’s just a small goal, something to aim for and hopefully I can carry it on.

Small steps

Well, that is an issue. We do our bit in January by ordering food from our local pub. That said, drinking so much that we die isn’t going to help the trade thrive, except for a fine trade in wakes.

Soft drinks are often too sugary or poor quality. More effort needed on that front in the trade would be good for us.

Sugar is very harmful to your body but we see little of have a sugar free January.

January can be a dreary month for many and a beer or two or whatever in a cosy pub can help get many through the dark days ahead.

Abstinence for one month won’t help an excessive drinker anyhow.

I feel going lean on many things and more isolation just helps fuel an epidemic of mental health problems particularly at this time of year.

Ahhh right I see, so is the end goal just to give it up altogether? On average they say it takes 66 days to firm a habit so I guess this would help get half way there

I had a pretty dry December. I only had a glass of sherry and a couple of glasses of Prosecco. Hardly rock and roll. Lol.

Yes, that would be the goal.

I don’t drink too much anyway so it shouldn’t be too difficult. It’s social pressure that I’ll struggle with

You can still go to the pub and not drink. In fact I only drink at home (wine mostly). More than happy to go to the pub for food and a soda water & lime. I'll happily dance the night away stone cold sober.
