Hopefully you've had chance to catch up on some good books over the holidays, or maybe santa brought you some new ones

What book are you currently reading, or just finished?

Did you like it, would you recommend it?

What have you got lined up next?

I've always enjoyed reading, Dan brown, John Grisham etc. I thought i would try and educate myself a bit, and read some American classics. I started with, to kill a mocking bird, then cannery row, currently reading on the road by Jack kerouac, good read, with interesting characters

I find the breadth of what everyone reads to be fascinating!

I just finished 'Girl, Woman, Other' by Bernardine Evaristo.

I didn't think i would enjoy it, but was was very interesting... The book introduces us to 12 black women and we learn the story of their lives, background, family and their sex life!

I have a much greater understanding of non-binary gender too as a result..

It was a wonderfully written book and i would definitely recommend it

I'll know it when I find it.

The Night Circus. Well rereading it anyway. A wise man said to me everyone needs their soul nourishing once in a while and he's right. I've read so many texts over the years. Hastily pored over, soon forgotten. So rather than starting a new book, I've decided to embrace the soothing and fantastical writing of Morgenstern once more. Soul nourishment is good.

Next I'm reading something apt for the new year - The Body Is Not An Apology.

Radical self love. Not apologising for existing, for being you. I've not yet read it but I'm going from the blurb. I don’t know how far along the path you are, but I might be inclined to start with Brene Brown, Glennon Doyle or Rebecca Campbell (any of theirs that appeal), but really they have to be something that speak to you.

My hand aches from holding the book open

Yeah i moved to audio in lockdown and started walking 10km every day.. Its fab to put a book on and get lost in the story.. I couldn't imagine reading an actual book now

Oh that's a shame. For me one of life's pleasures is pursuing in bookshops, looking at the wonderful array and vastness if imagination and possibilities within books..feeling the pages of a new book and even the smell of a new book gives me a tingle! Xx "

Totally endorse this - a book is a sensuous experience as well as a mental one.

"Currently, book (I think lol) 12 of The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan.

The series they've come out with.. have you seen it?"

No, I haven't. Tbh I'm not really sure that I want to, how on earth they're going to condense 14 books down into a TV series without completely butchering the story, I don't know

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I’m re reading “Mother Tongue” by Bill Bryson. It’s a history of the English language and explains some of the absurdities that non native speakers have to try and understand.

It sounds heavier than it is! He’s quite an amusing writer.

I guess it's more aimed towards people who haven't read the books then!

I've read several of his books, very funny guy and also quite deprecative of his home nation.

His book about walking the Appalatchian trail is well worth reading too.

Great thread - not read a single book mentioned so far, so lots of inspiration.

I'm in the middle of Obama's memoir, 'A Promised Land'. And just about to start 'Trio' by William Boyd. Have loved pretty much everything else he's written, so looking forward to getting stuck in...

"Hopefully you've had chance to catch up on some good books over the holidays, or maybe santa brought you some new ones

What book are you currently reading, or just finished?

Did you like it, would you recommend it?

What have you got lined up next? "

Currently reading 'Sextant', about the development of celestial navigation, the instruments and its impact on early voyages of discovery.

Also a good one to hold/put down strategically when in a coffee shop. Not that I'd do such a thing of course.

For pleasure I’m reading ‘Dancing Barefoot: The Patti Smith Story’

For pain/uni I’m actively avoiding Tess of The D’urbervilles but it’s gonna have to be read and thoroughly gutted before the next week is out.
