I live on the west coast in Cumbria. Its an OK town, a 30 minute walk down to the coast.. Loveee it just for the coastal walk, especially in summer.

Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight has loads of beaches contained within a 60mile coastline. Tourist beaches, picturesque ones with little more than a pub and cafe or completely remote ones, nudist beach too if thats your thing

What are you looking for apart from the sea? If you want a lively but somewhat run down place I'd say Brighton, plenty going on but it's a bit like a faded roué.

For a quieter life a lot of the Kent seaside towns are lovely.

Good choices, the dover at St Helens is my favourite place in the world, lots of happy times there, going to have my ashes spread there, no in a hurry for that visit though.

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

I lived in Felixstowe for many years and loved it, a perfect sized town for me with an old fashioned seaside town feel and lots of stretches of open coastline nearby

I always get Redcar and salt burn mixed up ,I like them both but one had a gallery on the old steel industry and one has fantastic surf on October / equinox time. I love all the NE coast tbh , much better surf than the SW but you need a wetsuit! I was recently doing sunrise photo shoots up around Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh it’s beautiful up there all the way up to Berwick, if I had time I’d drive around to Edinburgh too
