Watching ET and really like John Williams as a film composer.

What is your favourite film with his work, and if you know favourite piece of music

It's a toss up between Star Wars theme and Indiana Jones march.

Too many to mention he's so good.

If I had to pick 2 favourites, duel of the fates from episode I and the Jurassic park theme.

I think music is used far too much in films.

Spielberg was such a fan of Williams’ work that he commissioned the score for ET and then edited the film to fit the score. Usually it’s done the other way round.

Massive Williams fans in this house, this time of year though it has to be the score for Home Alone.

There are loads from the 1920’s that may interest you.

Jaws, when your music adds more than just emotional depth to a film, it actually creates dread and the character of the shark, then you know you’re a genius.

Admittedly Star Wars comes next

Manchester (he/him)

I quite like playing the John Williams game; you have to hum the theme tune to his films as people call them out, without getting them mixed up

here

Thought this was a sad announcement thread - thank goodness it’s not!

A couple of his lesser known film compositions:

Sabrina

Hook

Catch me if you can

The Post

An album really worth listening to - John Williams Live in Vienna. (Deutsche Grammophon label) It’s also fascinating to read the rehearsal interviews - the brass section pleaded with Williams to include in the concert the Star Wars Imperial March - listen to it - stunning orchestral sound, balance and control.

Big fan

Actually, before the invention of sound sync film, all you had was music- courtesy of old joanna and the house piano

Totally agree about Jaws, the theme instantly became synonymous with sharks regardless of the species

"Imperial March from Empire Strike Back"

This was my first thought…. But I’ll go for something differently iconic… the theme from superman… or the theme from Jurassic park

Dome iconic Williams scores mentioned here, but the king of them all is the complete Dances With Wolves score.
