"What does this mean to you? Is ego a good thing, or a bad thing?" Nothing wrong with having an ego. It's what makes you strive to be better.

"We all have one. It only becomes a bad thing if we use it as a stick to beat others with or try to convince others that our ego is better or more important then theirs. " Or manipulating others into feeding yours. A parasite ego.

"I tend to think of ego in terms of Freudian theory but I think you're talking about someone's ego as in how they see themselves. Like someone having a big ego, a bruised ego. I don't see ego as being wholly good or bad, it's person dependent and even then it fluctuates/changes over time. I think it's good to have a healthy ego, it means we're not wallowing in self loathing nor Dunning-Krugering through life. " Why do you think I’m talking about ego as in how they see themselves? I’m not adding my opinion yet, but I’m not talking about the ego in terms of shallowness etc

"The most empathic and understanding people are those who've experienced stripping of ego. That's my opinion anywhoo"

Makes some level of sense even nowadays considering how much of a pig the man was back in those days

"It's always a word that's seems to have a more negative conation to it from my experience. "They have a big ego" is nearly always said in a negative way about someone. "They have a lot of self confidence" is often said in a positive way. " That’s one of the reasons I’ve done this post. I’m interested in peoples perception of ego.

" I tend to think the same way, and how ego fits in within id and super-ego with Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. I have no issue with people having an ego as long as it’s not accompanied by a chip on the shoulder. As someone mentioned earlier, ego can make people strive to be better.

I was trying to avoid a large waffle on how the ego couldn't be good or bad and then realised the OP was probably referring to the more commonly used definition. But I'm loving that more are talking about the psychoanalytic perspective.

"Without ego you have no self worth, too much is bad for though" Confidence and arrogance is a fine line! Everyone should be confident though and happy in their own skin.

"What does this mean to you? Is ego a good thing, or a bad thing?" They can be fragile. I don't think they're good or bad, they just need a little managing. Or sometimes a lot...

"I think it’s healthy to have an ego to some degree. It can carry you through various things and benefit you. It becomes a bad thing when you start looking down on others or you believe you are too special to talk to someone or do certain things. " Agree with this. A guy with an ego and confidence is my biggest attraction. Particularly in the clubs. Arrogance and rudeness isn’t.

"What does this mean to you? Is lego a good thing, or a bad thing?" Lego is amazeballs. Its fun, educational, creative, immersive and wondrous. Its so much more than your parent’s lego now a days, with all the licensing bringing new themes. The introduction of lego aimed at adult collectors and fans, massive sets requiring hours to build that result in some fantastic ornaments and talking pieces. In short lego is awesome, while ego is just a term most people don’t understand.

"Lack of ego can also be a negative thing. I’m curious as to why?" I think ego is about a person's self esteem. So if they have none it can be a bad thing if they feel the world is against them. A crushed ego.

"What does this mean to you? Is ego a good thing, or a bad thing?" From experience I say Egos are bad and egos in many guys are very fragile and easily shattered and can result in not a good way. This is not an anti-male it is just observation just my observations.
